So... Rocky Horror was... erm... I can't even think of a term to describe my feelings on this film. I'm not big on musical films, and yet I am a huge fan of inappropriately placed musical numbers in my TV shows. Anyway, I didn't particularly like this film, but I didn't particularly dislike it either. I just don't know. I generally like my films to have a plot, and this film was so freaking random that I have no clue what it was about. And when I watch a musical, I generally like the musical numbers to progress the story rather than just be there to be there. So... there were parts that I really liked, and parts that were terrible. Like that Time Warp song, good lord do I hate that song. But see, I think that's one that I'd love if I was watching the stage show rather than the film. So I don't know. And, Anthony Stewart Head ruined me for the film, because I kept comparing Tim Curry to ASH and saying, "He's just not as sexy. Isn't he supposed to be creepy and sexually irresistible? The way he's singing that line doesn't do things to me like it does when ASH sings it." So, that stupid voice in my head was annoying. I did enjoy Tim Curry, I just kept imagining how much BETTER Anthony Head would be. I am a sad, sad individual. Anyway, this movie was ridiculously random and it was like some crazy drug-induced hallucination. I just... I don't know. It was weird. Not really my thing. And probably something more enjoyable to watch when it's live (which is how I feel about almost all musicals). And, I only dug a few of the songs. Sweet Transvestite, Wise Up Janet Weiss, and that Eddie didn't like his teddy song (can't remember the name). Also, I adored Dr. Scott. A lot. He was definitely my favorite character. Also, Riff Raff and his sister simultaneously amused me and grossed me out quite a bit, much like Amber and Luigi did in Repo!, only the incest was much more explicit in Rocky Horror. Aside from the humorous incest angle and some of the wardrobe choices, I don't exactly get why people compare Rocky Horror and Repo!, some even going so far as to say that Repo! is a rip-off of Rocky Horror. First off, Repo! is very plot-driven, whereas Rocky Horror barely has a plot (if any). Rocky Horror takes place in a world we know and then throws in some strangeness, Repo! takes place in the future and takes on its own world, which makes the fact that they sing absolutely everything a little bit easier to believe, you just get lost in that world. Rocky Horror is half talking half singing, Repo! is almost entirely singing. One's about alien transvestites while the other is about organ repossession and how love can either turn you into a monster or redeem your broken soul. Now, they do both focus on corruption and the metaphorical creation of a monster. But anyway, completely different movies through and through. Rocky Horror is much more comical and random, whereas Repo! is mostly over-dramatics that doesn't take itself too seriously. You see the corruption progress throughout Rocky Horror, whereas in Repo! the corrupted hero has already embraced his dark side and in fact finds a twisted comfort in being a legal assassin. The characters in Rocky Horror are all caricatures while Repo! has the complexity of Nathan and (to a lesser extent) Rotti (the Largo children are all pretty much caricatures though, and I think a lot of the Rocky Horror similarities come from their scenes). Anyway, different movies. Repo! is NOT a rip off of Rocky Horror. The music isn't even similar.

Er... in short, the only musical films I enjoy are My Fair Lady and Repo! The Genetic Opera. And animated Disney movies from the 90's to the present.

Anywho, this Merlin/Arthur vid by [livejournal.com profile] solanyxe rocks my world (I particularly love that they included Uther's reactions):

HEE! I love it. Also, I quite love this general Merlin vid, I just get annoyed by the GIGANTIC TEXT BOX that appears in the beginning. But otherwise, it makes me wicked excited for series 2, whenever it'll be shown (September, right? Please tell me September. Or earlier. Earlier would be even better):

Dude, I so hope we get Morgana/Slash Dragon scenes in series 2, and then the dragon will be all, "Your destiny is Uther," and we can rename him the Inappropriate Love Dragon. Except he'd be saying stuff like, "Your destiny is to kill Uther," but we can just ignore the "to kill" part.

Great manip, or greatest manip? OH GOD! Bwahahaha. I love it. Giles is a total dog. Also, this next one is actually good:

Dang man, if I didn't know any better, I could seriously be fooled into thinking that that's an actual pic. So, while most Giles manips are full of lolz, this one actually makes me melty. How I wish it were real. Although... they'd be awkwardly bonking noses and Buffy is looking at him like, "Seriously?" and Giles is all "OMGOMGOMG!" Hee. Methinks I'm going to end up reading fanfic tonight instead of doing something productive.

Also, this secret made me laugh, because it's so very true. The show does appear at first to be the epitome of mediocre, and the fans do at first appear insane (including me), and yet the more you watch the show, the more it sucks you in until you find yourself obsessing over stupid things like the exact quantity of beets that Dwight grows in one year and you're like, "Wait... WTF? What am I saying?" and eventually you succumb to the utter awesomeness that is The Office and start thinking up crazy scenarios to put the characters in. Also, I love this secret for naming two of my top ships for the show instead of saying anything about Jim/Pam. GOOD ON YOU, SECRET MAKER! I seriously wonder who they decided on for Andy, by the way, because I myself flip back and forth on the issue, especially in the superbowl ep (particularly when Kelly gets up and dances, but Oscar is there being all buddyish with Andy and I CANNOT DECIDE! I think I gave up on Andy/Kelly so long ago that I wouldn't be heartbroken if they never got together, whereas I would be DEVASTATED if Andy and Oscar don't, so... I guess I choose Andy/Oscar).

Also, while watching Repo! today during lunch, I realized that I seriously love musical numbers where all the characters are totally pumping with vengeance/determination and they are all making their way to the same place and looking all badass while doing so, and their voices all come together at the end and all the emotion is running high, and just... gah, I love it. Of course, I'm talking about "At the Opera Tonight." I LOVE that number. And my favorite part of the musical ep of Buffy is "Walk Through the Fire." That scene is a freaking masterpiece. And, since I'm talking about it, obviously I need to bring you the examples:

Now this is a musical done right. )

I'm sure there are more examples of this in non-ASH related musicals, but my brain is failing to think of them at the moment.

Okay, normally I'm against ridiculous guest stars on Ugly Betty because they are too often completely POINTLESS *coughGeneSimmons*, but this news rocks my world. BOBBY!!!!!!!!! I love that dude so freaking much. I've even read his Goombah books. HOW SAD IS THAT?

Sexiest looking secret ever? I think so. BY THE WAY, that is by far the sexiest scene of the entire movie, so I completely understand this secret. Also, whenever I see a pic from that scene, or see the words "night surgeon" the song automatically pops into my head. Every shot, every word, every emotion, it is nailed into my brain because I have watched that scene far too often. In fact, since the entire film is basically a song, I pretty much know every single line by heart. That's what happens when all the dialog rhymes. Although, I've never memorized Shakespeare, and his dialog usually rhymed... Oh, another reason why I dig that secret? IT DOESN'T INVOLVE GRAVEROBBER/SHILO! HALLELUJAH! I'm sorry, but I just don't like that pairing at all. I know the entire fandom revolves around them, but... ugh. Why must I always be turned off of popular pairings? WHY?

Meme time! This is actually one that I did a long time ago that I saw while searching for something else, and decided I wanted to do it again since I have quite a few new fandoms:

1. Merlin
2. The Office
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
4. In Plain Sight
5. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
6. Ugly Betty

Remind me to NEVER AGAIN stuff my face beyond reason. My stomach is about 4 sizes smaller than it was a year and a half ago, therefore I CANNOT eat like I used to. Saturday night I started feeling a little queasy but thought it would go away, wasn't a big deal so I didn't worry about it. Sunday morning I woke up with a rumbling stomach and cramps, thought I was hungry, so ate a good breakfast. Spent the rest of the day with that achey feeling in my stomach, and by lunch I thought again that I was just hungry. Went shopping with my mother and felt extra tired for no reason, also, stomach cramps got worse. By 8:00 I could not move without it hurting like the devil, felt like I was going to throw up, but didn't. So, I spent the ENTIRE NIGHT with horrid stomach cramps, tried to sleep but couldn't fall into a deep sleep since the cramps prevented me from relaxing, so I was up and down quite a bit. I have never had so many dreams in my entire life. This is some crazy virus that gives me 45 second dreams one right after the other and MY HEAD HURTS from all that went on in it last night. I swear there was not a second where I wasn't dreaming, unless I was in the bathroom. So, there was this one quick flash of the beach that we vacation at, and there were floating sheets of ice and giant penguins going by, and I had to go out on the balcony to see it. I had this other flash of Uther and Morgana, and they were in his throne room, along with a group of men, and Morgana was pitching an idea for a daycare system??? Anyway, Morgana looked wicked tired and she was holding a baby in each arm, and Uther was being obstinate and she was getting angry, and then he gets real close to her and whispers in her ear, "Motherhood looks deliciously sexy on you," (I don't even know, my brain is ridiculous) and Morgana gives him this flirty smile and then remembers she's mad at him, hands him the babies, and walks away from him in a huff. Then there was this other dream where one of my brothers was Will Arnett, and we had this super serious conversation and he reveals to me that he's gay even though he was married and had two kids, and I hug him and tell him that I'll always love him. Then my other brother comes in, who is a Mexican version of Daffyd from Little Britain (again, my brain is insane) and he too reveals that he's gay, and me and Will Arnett are COMPLETELY SHOCKED. Whaaaat? He looked just like that picture, by the way, only Mexican. I also kept having this quick dream where I saw the death of every single character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This happened several times throughout the night. I think because I had just watched The Gift before I went to bed. NOT A GOOD IDEA! Anyway, there were a ton more little snippet dreams, way too many to remember, but my head hurts. A lot. My stomach is a little better now than it was last night though. I tried to eat some oatmeal and could only take three spoonfuls. I don't think I can get much energy from three spoonfuls of oatmeal. Uuuugh, I feel gross. And I can't even go back to sleep because it hurts more when I lay down than when I'm sitting up. I hate being sick. I HATE IT. Colds I can deal with, but stomach viruses are like torture for me. I'm not used to not wanting to eat. It's weird. I shall comfort myself with Anthony Head related activities. Or... I could get some work done. *sigh* I hope this thing is gone by Thursday, because I am so not going to miss my Rascal Flatts concert. NO SIR! I may barf on all the people in front of me, but I'm going, damn it!

Oh, you know what being too obsessed is? Seeing the Repo! blu ray at Walmart and coming thisclose to buying it even though you have no way of watching it. I WANTED IT SO BADLY! I did this with DVDs back before I had a player. I bought a Jackie Chan DVD and tried desperately to play it on our computer, but couldn't. I was miserable for months. Then I finally saved up enough to buy a player (and by then I was in my Robert DeNiro phase, so I bought a bunch of DeNiro DVDs and watched those instead of my Jackie Chan one). But DVD players were $100 back then, as opposed to blu ray players, which are $300. *siiiiigh* But the blu ray had so much more on it than the DVD did. Hmph.

Ugh, I feel gross. So, so gross. Stupid stomach.

I continue my procrastination, despite the fact that my work is due today. But it was all for a good cause. I went to the Repo! website to search for Anthony Head's audition because the director said on the commentary that it would be on there, but I can't navigate around that website to save my life, so I have no clue if it's there or not, but when I clicked on Nathan in the "character" menu, it was flashing through a bunch of stills I hadn't seen before, including a neckerchief pic that I absolutely had to have (how can anyone resist a neckerchief, really? I think that's why I have a mini crush on Merlin). Anyway, I spent the entire morning on their massive message board, and I finally found this:

Sexy sexy pic )

Sadly I couldn't find it without the watermark, nor could I find a super huge HQ version, but... it still pleases me. Wait... now that I look at it closer, is that a dicky? OMG, AHAHAHA! HE IS WEARING A FUTURISTIC DICKY! How could this not make it into the movie? HOW?

Also, while on the MB, I was reading the merchandise thread, and people were talking about wanting the Repo Man jacket, and then this other dude was like, "I'd love to have the jacket too! And the helmet! Just name a price. Do the LED lights on the helmet cause blindness if you go out in the dark?"

:o

If someone went walking around in that costume, at night, I would be scared out of my mind. Ahahahahaha. Obviously I am TOO AFRAID to post anything on that board. I was going to ask if an HQ and watermarkless version of the above pic existed, but... yeah, they scare me. But it is a treasure trove of film stills. And I wasted my entire morning reading a bunch of the threads. Apparently Hot Topic is selling Repo! merchandise, but that store also scares me.

Oh! Also, the DVD doesn't contain any deleted scenes, but the Blu Ray disc does. I am so sad that I don't have a Blu Ray player. :'( By the time I can afford Blu Rays, there will probably be some new technology that I can't afford that will start phasing out Blu Rays. *sigh*

Okay, I really need to get to work. I want to be done before Ugly Betty. UGLY BETTY! IT FEELS LIKE IT HAS BEEN FOREVER SINCE I'VE SEEN YOU! One week it's on, the next week it's not, then it's on again, then it's a repeat, then it's on again, then it's a repeat again. I forgot how much ABC's scheduling frustrates the hell out of me. NBC may have ridiculously long hiatuses, but at least it saves me from having a repeat every other week.

So, I listened to the commentary of Repo!, the one with the director and Alexa Vega and Bill Moseley and Ogre, and it was utterly hilarious, but they mentioned that the movie was originally over 2 hours long, and they had to cut an entire subplot out of the movie involving Marni's body, and the scenes sounded wonderful, and it would've meant more Anthony Head scenes, BUT THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO DELETED SCENES WHATSOEVER ON THE DVD! THIS IS A TRAVESTY OF THE GREATEST MAGNITUDE! I WANT MORE REPO, DAMN IT! Also, Graverobber had a bigger storyline, mostly involving the Marni subplot, so he was more significant than just being a narrator, but WE WILL NEVER SEE THIS! *sniff* Honestly though, the Marni stuff would have made the "Didn't I" scene even more epic than it already is. Also, I am a moron for not realizing that Nathan had Marni's body in the house, and that it was gone when Shilo left to go to the opera. So, even though they left this bit of the subplot in without ever explaining it, I didn't notice. I thought it was a picture. Seriously. I did. The pictures were all 3D, so I just thought it was a more detailed picture. *facepalm* Also, another interesting tidbit, apparently critics who bash the film don't get that the funny parts are meant to be funny. They were actually taking the movie seriously. WHAAAAT? The comic book storyboards in the beginning pretty much set the mood for me and told me to look at the film as a comic, which I did, and comics are always over the top with both the drama and the comedy, plus it's an opera, so... why on earth take everything in the film seriously? Especially when there are cartoon noises in the background. I had read some user reviews of the film saying, "This movie is horrible. All they do is sing. Every line. The people in my theater were actually laughing at some of the scenes," and I was like, "Well, duh," but I didn't know that professional critics were saying the same thing. *sigh* I guess that's why I never listen to critics. Also, they all were totally mocking the way Anthony Head said "busy," after Mag asks him how he is. Apparently he had originally sung it out with a ton of emotion instead of the low gruffness that he uses for the final cut and they all found it completely hilarious. Hee. I find him utterly adorable when he's not even on the commentary. Also, I had NO IDEA that Shilo was the same girl from the Spy Kids movies. No idea. None. I thought she looked familiar, and I knew I had heard her name before, but I didn't make the connection. Also, I'm a little bit in love with Bill Moseley now (the dude that played Luigi). If I could stomach horror movies, I would totally check out more of his work. But I don't like horror. Unless it's in the form of a rock opera.

Anyway, I just had to voice my anger at being cheated out of deleted scenes and my glee at the commentary being so delightful (which is good, because the other commentary wasn't all that interesting, and the only special features are the 2 featurettes that were on the internet). But you all should buy the DVD anyway, because if the DVD does well there's a possibility of them making a sequel (or a prequel). I'd want a prequel myself. I'm thinking there has to be a connection between Nathan and Graverobber, especially after hearing a little bit about the Marni subplot.

OH! Another interesting tidbit (that is a spoiler for the end of the film, so I'll put it under a cut):

Spoiler )

Also, Paul Sorvino is a bit of a diva. Their stories about him had me laughing like crazy. Oh, and Paris Hilton's wardrobe? Almost all of it was from her own closet. It scares me how perfect Paris Hilton was for this movie. Like... I never once thought I'd ever say I enjoyed her acting, but she was perfect for the role of Amber Sweet.
