Okay, I know that when it comes to New Girl that I am a slightly insane Jess/Nick shipper, but uh... I'm pretty sure that I am going to fall hopelessly in love with Jess/Older Dude tonight. I suspected it before I even saw the preview clips, but now? Oh, I'm sure of it. Not only is it young perky girl/gruff older guy, but they start out fighting and it's AWESOME and then Jess has to humiliate herself but refuses to and then humiliates herself in a totally unintentional way and it's adorable and you know he's going to fall for her and OMG, I ALREADY LOVE THEM SO VERY MUCH. I'm sorry, Nick. You know that I will forever love you, but, well, Older Hot Dude wins every time. IDK, IDK, we'll see if this ship manages to unconvince me of Jess and Nick's true love even though I know it'll only last for a couple of episodes. But it is already epic, so...

Anyway, I have reached a new level of fangirl in that I am desperately yearning for fic of certain kpop music videos. Is this normal? Who the heck wishes for music video fanfic??? But seriously, watch this vid and tell me that you don't want to explore every facet of that story:

The cold husband, the miserable sister, the young/naive blind sister falling hopelessly in love with her sister's husband, the blind sister wanting so desperately to be just like her older sister, the miserable sister seeing herself mirrored on the blind sister, the miserable sister being jealous of the blind sister's innocent happiness, the cold husband ignoring both sisters and yet the young one is happy with the little things while the miserable sister resents everything. Just... SO MUCH TO EXPLORE. I want fic. So much fic. Preferably ones where the cold husband's heart starts to thaw as he spends more time with the blind sister, and he starts to realize his faults in his marriage and starts to open his heart to his wife, but the wife is scared to be vulnerable towards him again, so it's slow going but eventually it all works out and Blind Sister is happy because her sister and the man she loves is happy.

I also kind of want fic for this one:

This one is less nuanced than Cleansing Cream, so there's not as much to explore, but I still want to know how their love became so epic that she is so intensely clinging to him and does what she does in the end. The vid does give us backstory as to how they met, but I want all the stuff in between. Was he a gangster that pulled her into his life and made her his partner in crime? Were they like a Korean version of Bonnie and Clyde? Why did he decide to leave her, and in such a cold fashion? What the heck was the beginning about? Was that him leaving her with a bag full of money to start a new life? Had he planned to leave her all along? (in the flashback at the end he mentions that she can only find happiness on her own and not with someone else, and she says that's silly when she has someone that she can stay with forever)

I also want fic for the Cry, Cry/Lovey Dovey saga, mostly because those vids star Cha Seung Won in a love story with the mighty young girls from T-ARA. Apparently k-pop vids are full of ahjussi romances. WHY DID NO ONE EVER TELL ME THIS? Now, you could argue that in the Cry, Cry vid he is just a father figure for Ji Yeon, but... that is so not the case when we see the continuation in Lovey Dovey. She loved him and only him, and while he may have been a makeshift father figure for her, he was also everything else to her. And she was basically his entire life. I want all the fic of him angsting and being lost after Ji Yeon was kidnapped (at the end of Cry, Cry), and him looking all over for her and getting mega depressed when he couldn't find her, so he opens up a soju stand and creates a new identity and tries to forget about his old life.

Oh, k-pop! Why must you torment me like this?

Also, I am contemplating yet another rewatch of Yo Soy Betty, La Fea. HOW MANY TIMES CAN I WATCH THAT DAMN SOAP OPERA? It consumes my life whenever I start watching it. But it's so magnificently good that I can't not watch it a billion times. And now I have subtitles for every single episode!!! So... Yeah, I'm probably going to rewatch it again, and ramble about all my favorite scenes again, and the posts will probably be identical to the ones that I wrote a couple years ago (and then wrote again last year). I think it's just become an annual thing to rewatch this wonderful telenovela when I am hankering for some epically dysfunctional yet totally adorable love stories.

Community - POOR TODD.

Parks and Rec - Ron and Leslie Ron and Leslie Ron and Leslie for always. She is the only person that he would ever actually do fact checking work for. He has discussions with her that are longer than a minute. He never makes her think that he doesn't know her name. LOOOOOOVE. Yes, I realize that they barely had any scenes together last night, but that never stopped me before.

The Office - ANDY. ANDY ANDY ANDY. *grabby hands* Also, I am now tempted to grease up the floor at work and scoot boxes across it.

Vampire Diaries - DAMON. MY BEAUTIFUL, MESSED UP DAMON. I love it when he's being bad. I just do. Damon's not a good guy, and I love it when the show reminds us of that. Of course, this was neither shocking nor horrifying like they've done in the past, but at least it was a little bit of the old unstable Damon that I love so much. He's not Stefan. He hates being compared to Stefan. And poor Damon has spent his entire life being compared to him, always unfavorably, everyone asking why he couldn't be more like his brother. And when Damon is actually being a good guy, when he's actually doing the right thing, it's still not good enough. He's still not good enough, and that kills him. I love Damon. Always have and always will, but I love him for the mess that he is, not the reformed bad boy that Elena (and most of fandom) is trying to make him out to be. But he's also not pure evil. He wants to be good, he's just bad at being good.

Back to Community, this season has completely reawakened my Jeff/Annie love and I want so much fic. The sad part? All the good writers in the fandom have pretty much moved on. I don't blame them, because season 2 made Jeff/Annie look pretty hopeless, but this season has really kicked up the UST, and GOD I want good fic! I was never really into the porny times with these two so much, but now? I just want them to make out forever. Jeff's sudden fixation with Annie's boobs (not the monkey) has me all hot and bothered. But I also want angsty fic where Annie breaks his heart. Where he is just gobsmacked in love but too afraid to face it, and Annie gets tired of waiting for him to really open up to her, and she becomes the one that got away and he ends up bitter and old and alone but he always smiles when he thinks of her. I WANT JEFF TO SUFFER. I have no idea why. I guess because everyone always assumes that Jeff would break her heart, but I've always thought that it would be very much the opposite, whether it's because she outgrows him and wants something more, or because he keeps her at enough of a distance that she just stops believing that he loves her. Or something. I don't know, all I know is that I want angsty fic where Annie breaks Jeff's heart. I also want present time fic where Annie gets an actual boyfriend and keeps it a secret from Jeff because he always sabotages her relationships and she actually likes this one. And I wish that I wasn't so lazy so that I could actually write that Community as a K-drama fic that I've had in my head for ages where I would attempt to insert every single k-drama rom-com trope that I could think of (actually, it's not exactly laziness keeping me from doing it. It's like ever since I started working again, every single creative bone in my body has disappeared. Not that I've ever been all that good at fic writing, but at least I was able to get my ideas to form into actual stories. Now I just stare at a blank screen because my mind can't think of words. It's sad. Very, very sad. I will always blame work for this. Always).

So... Merlin was kind of boring this week, yes? Poor Gaius, he gets no love from me whatsoever. I do love him, but, you know, I love everyone else more. At least there was some super adorable Merlin/Arthur arm-punching going on. ♥

Oh, speaking of Merlin, am I nuts for really, really wanting to do an Uther/Morgana vid from Uther's POV set to Haunted by Taylor Swift? Like, clearly Uther's inner monologue sounds exactly like an angsty teenage girl, right? I'm pretty sure it does. Side note: for the bit where she's like "He will try to take away my pain/And he just might make me smile/But, the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead" I totally want to show clips of Arthur. AUGH, WHAT IS MY BRAIN?

Time to have a bitch moment (or two): I've gotten back into reading Jeff/Annie fic lately, because I seriously miss them, but I keep coming across fics where Jeff just randomly starts calling Annie "Edison" and it just completely takes me out of the fic, and I hate hate HATE this weird trend and wish it would freaking stop (but, you know, my view of the characters isn't everyone's view of the characters, so I should not let it bother me this much, but UGH!). When they do that and then throw in some cutesy banter I can't help but read it as Jim and Pam, because that is pretty much a staple of Jim/Pam fic and it bugs me when people turn Jeff and Annie into them, because they are anything but Jim and Pam. Bah. Not once has Jeff ever called Annie by her last name, has he? Or anyone, for that matter (except for Chang, of course, but that one makes complete sense. In fact, it would be weird if they all suddenly started calling him "Ben"). Anyway, if it's not an AU, I find the whole "Edison" thing to be completely OOC. On the bright side, that seems to be my only pet peeve with Jeff/Annie fic so far (well, that and making Abed annoying, but I am much more forgiving about Abed since I think he is nearly impossible to get right in fanfic form).

Bitch moment #2: Usually I like it when fanvids manage to incorporate voice clips from the show, but you know what? It just doesn't work for Vampire Diaries unless you are really good at disguising the background music that plays pretty much throughout the whole show. If you can't disguise it, then it's just better to leave it out. Otherwise, a perfectly good vid ends up getting ruined. Oh, oh, and you know what else has been bugging me about fanvids lately (for all fandoms)? That whole echo effect with the voice clips. ENOUGH WITH THE ECHOES. WHAT THE HELL, WHY DOES EVERY VID HAVE TO HAVE THAT? Now, I'm not saying that it's entirely bad, but freaking use it with purpose, don't just do it because it's the current trend. Use it for memories, voices inside a character's head, but don't use it for plain old voice-overs. Especially if there are a lot of words and it all gets jumbled into incoherency after you put the echo effect on it. It really depends on the mood of the vid for me on whether I think the echo effect is used successfully or not, but more often than not I find it obnoxious. (but, again, the whole world does not see things the way I do, to each their own and all that, BUT GODDAMN. ENOUGH WITH THE ECHOES).

Alright, now that the negativity is over, let's get back to the good stuff. Want to read an absolutely amazing Jeff/Annie fic that will completely blow your mind with its wonderfulness? Then check out They Can Never Call You By It by [livejournal.com profile] columbuscrab. I am not generally into the fics that explore Annie's drug addiction, simply because most of the fics are either over the top or just not my thing, but this fic is so beautifully written and man do you feel everything that Annie is going through, and god did she get the Jeff/Annie friendship down so perfectly. Everything in this fic happens like you would think the characters would handle it, and it's just a magnificent piece of writing, and surprisingly in character for such a dark fic.

In other news, I find myself ridiculously into Sam/Spencer from iCarly tonight. I have no idea why. There hasn't even been a new ep of iCarly for a few weeks now, but gosh, I love those two so damn much, and I somehow got sucked into watching reruns from season 1 tonight and they were all so different back then, but the Sam/Spencer vibes were as strong as ever. THEY ARE SO ADORABLE. And I love watching those episodes now with the knowledge that it was completely intentional that Sam has always had a thing for Spencer. I always knew it, but, you know, they didn't confirm it canonically until just recently. And then in the last new ep (iDo, I think it was?), Carly and Freddie are listing all of Spencer's faults and he's just like, "Yeah, yeah, that's true," and then Sam pipes up with, "Yeah, and he's got a flat butt," and Spencer turns around and shouts "TOO FAR!" and knocks the food out of her hand, and then spends the rest of the episode trying to prove to her that his butt is firm and round, and... well, of course I'm going to read into that as, "Spencer wants Sam to know that he is desirable. And he wants her to touch his butt." Of course, it's simply just that Spencer is rather vain about his appearance, but it's interesting that he's most sensitive about criticism whenever it comes from Sam. Anyway, watching the earlier eps tonight reminded me how even in the beginning they've always been in sync with each other. Like, maybe they're not always on the same page (especially since they are both often in their own worlds), but it doesn't take long for them to catch up with each other. And whenever one of them says something illogical, it usually makes sense to the other while Carly and Freddie are just completely lost. Remember the paintball war and how they both went to extremes and respected each other more the more extreme they got? Remember the episode where Sam taught Spencer how to lie? Remember that time when he put his mouth on her ear so that she could hear his pop rocks popping? Remember when Spencer asked Sam to model for his sculpture because he broke up with his girlfriend? REMEMBER WHEN SAM SAID THAT IF SHE DIDN'T HAVE A LITTLE CRUSH ON SPENCER THAT SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN HITTING HIS FACE WITH A BASEBALL BAT? REMEMBER WHEN SPENCER KEPT SHOWING HER HIS BUTT? Yeah, that happened. Oh, them. I love them. A lot. Here, have a video:

1. I just signed up for [livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice! Again! Apparently I am super desperate for Uther/Morgana fic, because I am putting myself through that deadline and insecurity angst for the second year in a row. I don't think that I even posted last year's fic anywhere but that comm. AUGH, UTHER/MORGANA, DO YOU SEE THE THINGS I DO FOR YOU? I am desperately hoping that someone will write me a long, angsty U/M fic of some kind. Heck, it doesn't even have to be long! And hopefully I will get mine written ahead of time this year (pfft, like that's gonna happen).

2. So, Modern Warfare is winning for best ensemble ep over on [livejournal.com profile] community_tv. Am I the only one who thinks that that is grossly unfair? The ensemble was whole for all of three minutes in that ep. And then everyone but Britta and Jeff were gone for the last half. Clearly Contemporary American Poultry should be winning, because no other ep utilized the ensemble as well as that one did (though Comparative Religion comes pretty close).

I think this is a tossup between Jeff/Britta and Shirley/Pierce. I just don't dig these dynamics very much (though I do enjoy Jeff/Britta snark in small doses)

1. I love my parents. Why, you ask? Well, because 1) they're awesome (but shhhh, don't tell them I said that!), 2) they're unintentionally hilarious (which they pride themselves on, I think), and 3) they take me along with them to fancy-ass restaurants and treat me to a little class when they really don't have to. HOW MANY PARENTS DO THAT? I don't know, but I ♥ them. I also ♥ my insanely expensive rack of lamb (which consisted of three little bones. Rack my foot, but ooooooooh was it good! As was my risotto, which was my first course. And the wine was good too. AND I HAD CHOCOLATE COVERED BACON FOR DESSERT! Well, it was part of my dessert anyway, and it's been my dream for a long, long time to try chocolate covered bacon, because it's my two favorite things all in one package, AND OMG, MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN. I loved it. Loved it! They also served it with part of a chocolate waffle and some vanilla ice cream, which... meh, I would have just preferred a whole plate of bacon. Heart attack waiting to happen, yes, but wouldn't it be a great way to go? Death by bacon, mmmmmm).

2. I am ridiculous. Why, you ask? Well, because 1) I am making a Jeff/Annie fanvid set to "Something There" from Beauty and the Beast for a person on [livejournal.com profile] milady_milord and I am having way too much fun making it (though I am depressed that I have no clue how to get a pretty Disney-like filter on there, or, you know, something that would make the video more vibrant in color to give it that Disney feel. But oh well, hopefully this person will be satisfied with a fairly simple yet kind of ironic use of clips sort of vid), and 2) I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] schmoop_bingo even though I haven't written a real fic in forever. Though, that was pretty much my reasoning for it. I need something to push me into writing again, because I really miss it, and I've been a little stressed lately with all my job searching (and rejection), and fic has always been my escape from that kind of stuff (no matter how awful the fic is). So, here's hoping I get some schmoop written! I suspect I'll write all the kid/baby fic prompts first, because I am lame like that (it amuses me to no end that most people were like, "Ick! Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?

That would be Inspector William Monk and Hester Latterly from Anne Perry's Inspector Monk series. They are absolutely everything that attracts me to a ship. Bickering of the highest caliber, this subtle air of unrequitedness (mostly on Hester's side, but then much later in the series Monk starts pining for Hester big time), JEALOUSY, perplexed attraction, repressed emotions, begrudging respect, getting to the point where they seek out each other's opinion on every little detail of anything (which inevitably leads to hurt feelings because they are both terribly blunt characters who are also pretty sensitive), thinking about each other when they're with other people, LOVE TRIANGLE (which, I will not lie, I tend to picture Monk as whatever celebrity I'm currently into (though more often than not he's played by Colin Firth in my head), while Rathbone is either Hugh Grant or James Spader), age gap (though Monk actually thinks of Hester as an old maid even though she's more than ten years younger than him), kickass female heroine who is just as deeply flawed as the hero (and who is just as important to saving the day as Monk is), and basically, when you get down to it, even though she's a nurse and he's a detective, they're partners through and through. Monk is a better detective with Hester by his side, and Hester receives the excitement and job fulfillment that she's always looked for in the past whenever she helps Monk. And, really, sometimes it feels like Hester is actually the one doing all the dirty work, because she's the one that gets close to the family that's being investigated and she takes risks to get information that Monk repeatedly tells her not to, and she's the one that looks beyond evidence and delves into people's humanity (or non-humanity, as the case may be), and Monk needs this. He needs her for all of that, and he's impressed by her for all of that, and he's proud to call himself her friend for all of that, and even though she bugs the bejesus out of him, he falls madly, deeply in love with her for all of that. She is the exact opposite of everything that he's always thought he's wanted in a woman, and yet no other woman can quite measure up to her for him. She's opinionated and brash and plain-looking and old (in his mind), but throughout the course of the series, he comes to love these aspects about her. He loves that she seems to understand him on a level that no one else can, he loves that he can discuss things with her that he can't with anyone else, he loves that she's awesome in every way, and Hester loves him for pretty much the same reasons (though, technically, Monk is not quite as awesome as Hester is in my eyes).

Next time on firthgal's journal... )

1. Warehouse 13 continues to be delightful. And I continue to fall in love with Pete/Claudia, even though this ep was pushing the Myka/Pete subtext more than usual. Whatevs. My rebel shipping cannot be stopped! Unfortunately.

2. Covert Affairs was so completely awesome. I am in it... to win it? I don't know, but anyway, I highly enjoyed it. The car chases were amazing, the action was the right mixture of showy and plausible, and the characters are already pretty lovable. Particularly Auggie. And, yeah, I kind of really, really want to ship Annie and Auggie, because not only is their banter adorable, but look at the alliteration! Clearly they are meant to be. Unfortunately there is some kind of crazy EPIC LOVE happening in Annie's backstory though, and the pilot managed to even get me intrigued there, and, let's face it, that dude kind of ruined all men for her. No one will ever measure up, so shipping Auggie/Annie is pretty futile, but that's never stopped me before, now has it? Also, I'll admit it, when Annie was getting her CIA badge and they were paralleling her dialog with Arthur's, I so thought I would be shipping them, but alas, the show failed to deliver anything of substance between them during their actual interaction. BUMMER. I don't even know why I'm focusing this review on shipping, because uh... that's most definitely not what this show is about, but again, has that ever stopped me? Anyway, this show is good summer fun, and pretty damn awesome. I was fearing that it would be too much like Burn Notice or White Collar, but it captured my love right from the start (mind you, the pilot for White Collar got me too, but then after that I found the show completely boring, so hopefully that doesn't happen with this one. With Burn Notice, I seem to get into it for a few eps and then promptly lose interest, then I get into it again, then I lose interest again).

3. I am so completely in love with this vid:

Oh, Jeff/Annie. *dreamy sigh* I love it when people somehow manage to make angsty vids out of such a wacky show. Oh, oh, speaking of Jeff/Annie, have you all read Home by [livejournal.com profile] dearygirl? If you haven't, you should, because 1) it's beyond awesome, 2) it's EPIC, both in length and in quality, and 3) flashbacks interspersed with real time! I am kind of a sucker for that format, I have no clue why, but anyway, it was expertly put to use in this story. Seriously, it was so, so wonderful.

4. You know, I look forward to the porn battle every year, and it's pretty much the only time that I dare to write porn, but of course this one's happening while I'm on vacation. So not cool. Oh well, I participated in the winter one, I guess that's enough. BUT WHAT A BUMMER.

5. True Blood. You know, I'm not too sure if I like Bill's regression into evil, because it's taking away most of his endearing qualities, but at the same time, it's kind of wonderful seeing him being so damn evil. It's interesting how his vampiric instincts are being shown in this completely dark light and it just feels dirty and hopeless and depressing, and you know it's because he's trying to give up Sookie and just be what he is because he thinks it'll hurt Sookie less, and I think this is what saves him from completely turning into a villain, but it also frustrates me because he didn't bother to ask Sookie what she wanted (but again, I understand why he did what he did, it's just sad to see him stop fighting for a love that he had previously fought so hard to protect). And man was that last Bill scene disturbing. Whenever Bill feeds on humans (other than Sookie), it is always shown in this terribly, terribly violent way, which is such a contradiction to the Bill we've come to know, and it somehow makes him feel way more dangerous than Eric has ever been (even though, you know, we've seen Eric rip a dude apart and completely traumatize poor Lafayette).

Also, I am kind of in mad love with Franklin. Dude's insane.

I know that I am probably wearing you all out on Christoph, but seriously, that dude? He's awesome. I watched that movie Ordinary Decent Criminals, the one where Kevin Spacey has an utterly atrocious Irish accent and he robs people and he shows his balls. Anyway, Christoph has a tiny role in that one, and dudes, DUDES, he is so freaking adorable as a nervously babbling Dutch guy posing as an art dealer. The fact that I can get all googly-eyed over him in this ridiculous film says something. But he's so cute when he's vulnerable!

Now, let's off-set all that good guy Christoph with creepy, doll-obsessed psycho Christoph:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ws18svBGw&NR=1

Bwahahahahahaha, OMG, I need to see that whole episode.

OMG, CHRISTOPH WALTZ IN MY EXACT KIND OF ROM-COM! Damn it, why is none of this stuff on DVDs with ENGLISH SUBTITLES? *sigh* Not that I could afford to import DVDs at the moment anyway. GOD, SOMEBODY PLEASE TEAR ME AWAY FROM YOUTUBE.

In other news, for the past three nights I've been having dreams about Daniel/Betty. Yeah. Daniel/Betty. Having sex. Of all the things to dream about, that's what my brain thinks up? Not that I am complaining, because I'm pretty sure it was just a sign that I needed to write Daniel/Betty porn for the porn battle. Which I totally did. Though it is not nearly as porny as my dreams were. In fact, I would classify it as PG-13, but that's probably as porny as I will ever dare to go with Daniel/Betty. Goodness gracious, it's been so LONG since I've written anything for them, and it felt so very good to get that out of my system, though it could easily lead to a much bigger fic if my heart so desires. Anyway, there you go. Porny Daniel/Betty.

There has been SO MUCH fanfic that's popped up yesterday and today that I really want to read and have bookmarked, but... but... I can't stop watching Christoph Waltz. Clearly he is taking over my life. I did manage to get out and enjoy the weather today though. I am determined to get back into my exercise routine (pfft, we'll see how long that lasts). But there are also 70 billion other things that I'm supposed to be doing that do not include Christoph Waltz, so I am kind of being stupid. But it's Christoph Waltz, so, you know, I don't feel too bad.

Random question: How come no one has ever applied Bad Romance by Lady Gaga to Uther/Morgana? Every time I hear it (which is pretty much every time I go anywhere with my mom), I immediately think of them. I kind of want to do a fanvid, but it's got so much of that "ra ra" craziness that I would probably be pulling my hair out trying to think of cool ways to make various clips fit to that. But, just as a song itself, it shouts UTHER/MORGANA to me. Then again, pretty much any song does that (even the happy ones, because yes, I am that in love with them).

OMG, HE COULD TOTALLY BE THE NEXT JAMES BOND.

Community is going to force me to watch M*A*S*H, isn't it? And make me predisposed to ship the hell out of Hawkeye/Hot Lips. *sigh* Anyway, Community continues to rock my world. The Jeff/Annie scenes were so dang adorable tonight. I know the show doesn't mean for us to ship them, but how can we not with adorableness like that? Seriously dudes, that last scene between them in the office! *melts* Also, the conclusion to the Jack Black storyline cracked me up way more than it should have. Also, Jack Black referred to Jeff and Annie as milord and milady. COMPLETELY UNINTENTIONAL SHOUTOUT TO THE SHIPPERS, WOOHOO! (hey, I'll take anything, even if it's accidental)

Parks and Rec! It made me giggle. Especially the MRI scene. And Ron wanting to punch Tom in the face.

30 Rock! Kenneth totally won the first episode. OH GOD, KENNETH VS THE COMPUTER! I was laughing like crazy. The Jack/Jonathan bits totally broke my heart. Poor Jonathan. I also really loved Tracy and his female posse member in the second ep. That's pretty much all that I really loved about the eps tonight. I feel like I am falling out of love with Jack/Liz, because normally that second episode would have been completely shippy to me, but for some reason it really didn't excite me at all tonight, except for the very last bit where Liz was teasing Jack. I don't know. I just miss loving them with the fierce devotion that I used to have. I guess the honeymoon is over? I can't stay devotedly in love with a ship for more than three years? Actually, now that I think about it, I'm beginning to suspect that's true. My love usually starts to wane during the third year and then I am just half-assedly shipping them after that. Me and Jack/Liz were supposed to be forever! I wasn't supposed to get disillusioned by all the naysayers! I don't know what's wrong with me. I still love them, but they just don't get me as excited as they used to. Although, when I watch old eps, they do excite me, so maybe it's just this season in general that I'm not loving as much. I just don't know. But the show is still making me laugh, so I guess that's the important thing. It's just that Jack/Liz is what made me really, really fall in love with the show in the first place.

I watched the movie Up! for the first time the other day. Such a freaking beautiful movie. I admit that I kept rolling my eyes whenever I saw people expounding over its beauty and how it made them cry, but now I totally get it. The use of the music, the way the most emotional moments were so visual and so real, the simplicity of it all juxtaposed with the ludicrousness of floating a house by balloons to South America, the way it captured how utterly painful and hard it is to just move on. God, I was bawling my eyes out through most of the beginning of the film, and it kills me how accurate the movie was about how we so easily write off the elderly as being senile. It just... it was a movie about old people and children, so naturally it tugged at my heartstrings. It was so, so beautiful. After Wall-E, I did not trust the internet about beautiful, heartfelt movies, because good lord was Wall-E awful. And long. And one of the most boring films I've ever seen in my life. I think I'd even subject myself to a rewatch of The Accidental Husband before I'd watch Wall-E again. Unpopular opinion, I know, but dear god was that movie excruciatingly boring. Up!, however, was brilliant in every way. I just need to watch it with a tissue box nearby next time.

Fact: I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] chaos_thon. Remember that create a TV show meme from a week or so ago? Yeah. I'm going to try to write a story based on that idea. Original fiction! I have never in my life put any of my original fiction in a place where people can actually read it, so... hmm. This will be an adventure. I haven't written anything original since my college creative writing class, and most of that was awful. So, we'll see how I do. I am actually quite excited about it, but I am way more self-conscious about original stuff than fanfiction, plus, pretty much no one will read it, so feedback will be hard to get. At least in school one or two people were forced to read my crap for an editing grade. But anyway! I am excited. I really, really hope that I do not flake out on this like I usually do with such things.

The 30 Day Meme
Day 14 → A non-fictional book

This book is both fascinating and utterly hilarious, and the bits about the family dinners/get-togethers remind me of the early days of my childhood quite a bit.

days )

In the mood for some hot, dirty manloving? Read:

Over Qualified by [livejournal.com profile] miakun (Uther/Merlin, modern AU, NC-17)

Merlin is Uther's assistant. He is still mighty clumsy and Uther is still very perplexed by him. Uther is all temperamental and Merlin is silently challenging. I freaking love the power dynamics in this fic. I think I just really love the idea of Uther being at the mercy of someone else because his love or passion for them is so consuming that he just gives up the power, but the other person willingly submits themselves to him, and this trend is big with Uther/Morgana and Uther/Merlin, so, I think that's why I dig those ships so much. Anyway, I really enjoyed this highly porny fic.

On a slightly unrelated note, I will be utterly shocked if no one writes an Avatar!Merlin fic. Perhaps this is just my weird habit of watching any movie and contemplating how it would fit into the Merlin world, but seriously, Avatar? That movie so needs to be Merlin ficced. Arthur = Jake, obviously. Morgana is Grace, Merlin is Neytiri, Will is Tsu'tey, Uther is Parker (and yes, I was majorly shipping Grace/Parker, but I think I was the only one. Everyone else seems to have been shipping Jake/Grace), the Witchfinder is that insane Colonel guy, Gwen is Trudy, Lancelot is Norm (maybe?). Not sure how Gaius would fit into it. And I suppose Balinor and Hunith would be the parents. But anyway, instead of blue cat people acting like Native Americans, it would be a world of druids. Or something. I don't know, but... surely someone somewhere is constructing a Merlin/Arthur fic modeled after the Jake/Neytiri love story, right? It's just begging for it. I didn't even like Avatar all that much and this is going through my head.

Also, one of the greatest things to ever receive in my email inbox? This:

thank you for making me believe in office fanfiction again.

Because my parents stayed home today since most of the roads were closed and I need something to help keep my sanity in tact.

The 30 Day Meme
Day 02 → Your favorite movie

Okay, this is a hard one, because I can't really choose a favorite. It varies from mood to mood, but if I had to pick just one film that I could pretty much watch at any given time and enjoy it immensely, that would be:

It just makes me smile.

On snowy days like this, I quite enjoy watching the Anne of Greengables/Anne of Avonlea miniseries. I don't know why I like watching these when it snows, but I do.

Also, Rush Hour. I love it. A lot.

Those were the days )

The fanfic in review meme! (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] dollsome) I did this last year and quite enjoyed filling it out, even though no one is friends with me for my fanfic (which means you all love me for me, so don't think I'm complaining). I just am not in the habit of praising my own fic, and I think this meme kind of pushes me to? So, I'm doing it.

This Year's Fic
1. Stride for Stride (Merlin, Uther/Morgana)
2. Soulmates (Ugly Betty, Daniel/Betty)
3. Drabbles (Psych, Lassiter/Juliet; Merlin, Uther/Morgana; The Office, Michael/Ryan)
4. Five Times Oscar Dreams of Andy (The Office, Oscar/Andy)
5. Flashes of Life (iCarly, Spencer/Sam, Sam/Freddie, Carly/Freddie, Spencer & Carly)
6. Five Reasons Why Morgana (Begrudgingly) Loves Uther (Merlin, Uther/Morgana)
7. When Bros Move On (The Office, Oscar/Andy)
8. The Totally Gay Version of Jim and Pam (The Office, Oscar/Andy, Jim/Pam)
9. How to Woo a Guy in Ten Days (The Office, Oscar/Andy)
10. Touch, Bubblegum, Anger Drabbles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy/Giles, Giles/Anya)
11. Embrace, Forced Marriage, Repo, Mask Drabbles (Merlin, Uther/Morgana)
12. A Map For Every Occasion (Community, Jeff/Annie)
13. Mystery fic for [livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice (pffft, like it'll be any big mystery)

The questions )

Speaking of fanfic, my dorky self has been seeking out Christmas Buffy/Giles fanfics like crazy, and I know I only have like one person on my f-list that reads Buffy/Giles fic, but damn it, I am going to rec a fic a day until Christmas! Who knows, there may be some lurkers out there that love Buffy/Giles just as much as I do. So, today's rec is:

Sierra High by Gail Christison. Granted, the only actual Christmassy stuff is briefly referenced, but since I am surrounded by snow, I think this fic is suitable for the holiday. It's a post-Chosen fic, and it's got horseback riding and angst and creepy lizard werewolf things and bathing and ooooooh I love it!

Also, completely unrelated to Christmas, I whole-heartedly recommend The Blackmail Series by [livejournal.com profile] antennapedia. Now, this is an unusual pick for me, simply because I generally prefer plot over porn. I'm just not that into porn when it comes to fic (especially of the BDSM variety), but sometimes it seems like porn of some kind was a requirement for all well-written Buffy/Giles fics back in the day, so, I've been reading a lot of porn. And after awhile, it just gets tiring. But this fic? HOLY HELL, IT'S HOT. And oddly beautiful. It's just a fascinating read, and I love how much it stays in character despite the fact that the subject matter is so far from canon, but damn she makes you believe it. And what I love about this fic is that there's this beautiful romance developing underneath all this kinkiness, and I am so completely wrapped up in it. I actually read the last chapter written before I read anything else because I have this tendency to not pay attention to author's notes and so I missed that it was part of a series, and yet I fell so, so in love with just that one chapter. So, now that I'm all caught up, dear god do I love this story. I cannot wait to see how it turns out. I love how it's written in the way one would do PWP, but at the same time, there's a plot in there about self discovery and finding the person that makes you whole.

Because my parents stayed home today since most of the roads were closed and I need something to help keep my sanity in tact.

I generally don't mind spoilers for anything that I watch. In fact, I usually seek them out and balk at spoilerphobes. But True Blood is the one show that I don't want to be spoiled for because this show is big on surprising reveals. I got spoiled in season 1 about Sam being a shape shifter and I was all bummed out that I didn't get to be shocked with this, and vowed to never read anymore spoilers for the show ever again. I had once pondered reading the books, but read about five pages and was done with it (I am lazy, so sue me). Well, guess what? The commenters on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets have just spoiled a big huge freaking plotline about Bill that I DID NOT WANT ANY PART OF KNOWING. If it was a small thing, I wouldn't care. But this is huge. And I am stupid and should have known not to read comments, even though I never suspected spoilers that huge to be talked about. And I fear it will ruin my perception of the character forever and ever, and he was my absolute favorite! NO FAIR. NO FAIR AT ALL. And if the show goes down the same path as the one described in the books, I WILL NEVER FORGIVE IT. EVER. Oh Bill. WHYYYYYY? And I am seriously angered by the people saying that Bill has no depth. Perhaps he doesn't in the books (no idea, seeing as how I only read five pages, if even that), but Bill on the show is all full of manpain and he's trying to live respectably and he truly believes that Sookie's love is his salvation and he wants so badly to be good but he keeps getting sidetracked by the despicable things of his past and he keeps getting tempted but he resists for Sookie and PLEASE DON'T RUIN THIS, SHOW! PLEASE DON'T. That being said, I've always kind of suspected that Bill has a hidden agenda with Sookie, but at the same time, his love for her seems so genuine, or at least it feels like he wants it to be genuine and he's struggling with that. In terms of Eric being a better person, at this point I think they are both equal in the evilness category. Eric is just more stable emotionally, which makes sense since he's been around much longer than Bill. But anyway, I fear that my love for Bill will now slowly start to dwindle, and I'll never know if the show is waiting to pull that card out of their pockets or if they've thrown it away, so I'll always be waiting for it. ARGH ARGH ARGH. Me = idiot.

In other news, I totally want to write a Merlin ancient Greece AU. Only... with the whole pederasty thing and the girls being married off after their first period, it would be wildly inappropriate and probably not something I'd want to approach. But I could smudge the details and make Morgana at least 16 (and Merlin, who would be Uther's lover boy. Oh yes. And Merlin is also having a secret affair with Arthur, who I guess would be in his 20's, therefore perfectly plausible in ancient Greek society). Yeah, I have too much crap to do, but that tends to be when I actually write fanfiction, so who knows! This one may actually happen. Probably not. But it may! Or not. Possibly! We'll see.

So, remember that new iCarly obsession I was talking about? I uh... I'm kind of writing a fic. And it was meant to be short but I keep going and going and going, because I am basically a non-cool female version of Spencer Shay. And it is sad that it took a tween-com show to get me this prolific. But anyway, I am taking a break from that to bring you MEMES! WHOOT!

Meme #1 (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] otempora42)

I read way too much fanfiction... )

Meme #2! Stolen from various peeps:

- Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
- Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper.
- Don't change your wallpaper before doing this, the point is to see what you had on!

What? It's no longer Uther? ARE YOU INSANE? )

Alright. I should probably go do something productive now. *sigh*
