I just spent my morning/early afternoon catching up on the last three eps of Glee. I still find this show ridiculously annoying, and yet I CAN'T STOP WATCHING. I just can't. Even when I skip out on it for three weeks because of work. But, well, I had to watch the Kurt/Karofsky developments. I had to. They are pretty much the only thing I care about at this point, and oh the scene in the hallway where Karofsky genuinely apologized to Kurt. It was so lovely and full of tension and the actors really bring out the best performances from each other. It was just a really well done scene, and while it doesn't exactly redeem Karofsky, it made me feel his struggle. I think a lot of that is the actor, really. He's great at getting so much across with just a look or one line of dialog. And for the first time I actually felt like Kurt/Karofsky could be a legit ship in the future if Karofsky continues to make an effort to deal with his feelings. And the scene at the prom where they are walking out to the dance floor together, OMG. Just, I can feel their chemistry, their potential, their confused feelings... they are my kind of ship all the way. At least, they seem to be shaping into my kind of ship (I didn't think I'd be able to get past the bullying issue, but the prom ep really did a lot in moving them beyond that). I still don't trust this show to do romance right, though. Especially a controversial one that needs to be taken slowly. And, well, Kurt seems to be very happy with Blaine right now, and it was just lovely seeing him being so full of joy during the dance at the end. So, I'm not quite sure where the show stands on Kurt/Karofsky, and Karofsky only gets a few minutes every few episodes, so it's not like the show will ever go into depth with them. But even so, I think it's probably the best relationship this show has done all season, which is probably due more to the acting than the writing, if I'm honest. Seriously, that Karofsky kid is pretty darn good. I'm just not used to quality acting on Glee! Anyway, Rachel/Finn still sucks (Quinn/Finn will always own my heart in that insanely boring love triangle). Will/Emma still bugs the crap out of me. Jesse is still the only person other than Will who can really match Rachel's voice, and Jesse/Rachel amuses me rather than making me wanna barf. Sue is getting more and more ridiculous and inconsistent, and I miss when she was my favorite. The show just can't decide what to do with her anymore. I'm pretty sure all three eps made me cry, especially the funeral one.

Alright, enough about Glee. Last night I watched ep 5 of Lie to Me, and I am even more in love with the show. The Dramabeans crowd seems to be really down on the show, but I find that I tend to disagree a lot with the views on that blog anyway (doesn't stop me from loving the crap out of that blog, though. Good gosh, I am addicted). But yeah, they generally thought that the ep was boring and they're about ready to bow out, but this ep left me giddy and breathless and dying for more. I do agree that the plot is taking too long and is rather flimsy, but the show finally got moving on the love story, which is what really drew me in. She is messing with his head and he is trying so hard not to be affected by her. Oh gosh, the scene on the bench, LOVE. And the scene in the cafe where he's trying to act all nonchalant so that he could properly reject her and then he gets disappointed/embarrassed when she never brings up the almost kiss. I love that he is already obsessing over her, while she generally just thinks its fun to mess with him and isn't really reading much into things. I wasn't expecting that, to be honest. I thought for sure she'd fall first, so this was a nice surprise.

Anyway, I'm really, really loving Lie to Me. On Dramabeans the commenters keep talking about how much better Baby-faced Beauty and Romance Town are, but, ugh, I couldn't get past the first two eps with both of those dramas. I do want to try and watch more of BFB, though, because it definitely felt like it had potential to get better, but Romance Town was just plain awful. I seriously don't get the appeal with that one.

30 Day Kdrama Challenge
Day 02: Your Favorite Male Lead Character

Kang Gun Woo Maestro, aka Kang Mae (Beethoven Virus)

He's the greatest. He just is. He's rude and egotistical and brutally honest and impossibly demanding. He just fails at social interaction and he knows it. It's not that he means to, it's just the way he is and he's very unapologetic for it. Of course, what he lacks in social graces he more than makes up for in talent and dedication to his craft. He's brilliant. But he's a perfectionist who knows he isn't perfect, and this is probably his greatest downfall. He wants to be the best, but he knows he never will be because he just can't make a connection with people. He's had a hard life and he convinced himself that he only has himself to depend on, and that he doesn't need anyone else. He's afraid to let anyone in because the human heart is unpredictable, and he only likes things that are unchangeable, hence his passion for classical music. But when he meets Ru Mi and Gun Woo and the rest of the ragtag orchestra, he starts to depend on them for love and friendship and acceptance little by little. He learns that he has a great capacity to care for other people, and that he likes being cared for in return. He likes having people to call his own, basically. But see, he doesn't know how to properly express his emotions and things get muddled up and then he gets hurt and then he gets scared and then he either runs away or chases everyone else away. He's flawed and lovely and brilliant in every way. I love him so damn much.

Not surprised with your favorite lead! :D!! He is a great character. I love how by the end he has opened up to the orchestra members a bit but he is still himself and not changed into a "better" person.

Oh gosh, that is probably the #1 thing that I love about Beethoven Virus. Kang Mae always stays true to who he is. He changes his views on life, but not his personality. He's still his prickly old self by the end of the drama, but he's finally accepted that he cares about these people, and they've allowed him to open up emotionally, which helped make him a better conductor.

But even so, I think it's probably the best relationship this show has done all season, which is probably due more to the acting than the writing, if I'm honest. Seriously, that Karofsky kid is pretty darn good.

The actor is Max Adler. How do I know that? After the show had Dave kiss Kurt in the episode dealing with bullying I just had to find out who he was. I maybe predicted the kiss. What I didn't predict was the depth and longing that would come across from that kiss. Who knew dumb jock/bully actor would be a better actor than most of the regulars? LOL!

I kind of hate myself by how intrigued by them I am. There are so many reasons to be anti-Kurtofsky but dammit if the actors don't find every layer possible in every scene and work the hell out of them. Whenever I watch their scenes, the show goes from a simplistic, insulting-after-school-special type of show that I did walk away from to a show that has so much depth and nuance I think I could find it on cable.

I think it's partly writing. I get a little hint that Ryan Murphy wants to let his Nip/Tuck flag fly and go there but ultimately, his dedication to be some sort of after school special will win out. They will continue with the boringly sanitized options they usually go with and that will be fine. It's really easy for me to ignore the show. The minute or two an ep with Dave and Kurt? Not so much.

Our love of marginal storylines on a goofy show once again align. I went so far as to write a Kurt/Karofsky story for Porn Battle because I'm sort of crazy about them.

Oh, Glee is the worst. I love it. And hate it.

THAT ICON! *melts into an embarrassing heap of goo*

Dude, I so need to go back and read that fic. I've had it on my to-read list forever, and now I'm all starry-eyed over the ship. It is sad that all it took to make me forgive Karofsky was one little teary, sniffly apology from him. *sigh*

For the record: the apology bit I wrote totally came before that ep and is not--I repeat, not--a ripoff. I swear.
