Day 30 - Your favorite ship forever and ever and ever?
Um... I HAVE NO IDEA. Oh, meme, the very fact that I am doing you should tell you that I jump around from ship to ship like it's going out of style. I think perhaps it's Buffy/Giles, because those two really did a number on me, and I think that they will forever seduce me with their repressed emotions and their forbiddeness and their potential for both happiness and epic angst (and epic sex. YEAH, I SAID IT). I mean, the subtext that this show gave us to work with was phenomenal, and I think it'll always have me wondering if that subtext was intentional or not. There are so many what-ifs with this ship that the possibilities are pretty endless, and even though I've read countless Buffy/Giles fics, I always manage to come across an idea that is new to me and completely exciting, and heck, with these two, I even love the tried and true fanfic cliches (in fact, I actively search for those sometimes. I will never, ever tire of reading Buffy/Giles get trapped on a deserted island fics. NEVER).
ALSO, THEY'RE BOTH KIND OF BADASS. Oh, I love them. They will forever be the parental units of the Scoobies to me. I know that people like to make Giles out to be Buffy's father (including the novelizations), but gosh, Buffy and Giles have always been such a team that that just never made sense to me. They were the leaders, they kept everyone in line, they kept each other in check, they supported each other in everything, and whenever they broke up (so to speak) their little makeshift family completely fell apart. THEY WERE TOTALLY MARRIED, OKAY? But then they got divorced and it was really depressing. Especially since Giles was supposed to be the one man who would never leave Buffy. The majority of Buffy's emotional turmoil during seasons 6 and 7 came from her rift with Giles. I mean, yeah, the whole being pulled out of heaven thing was a bitch, but Giles leaving her? That was devastatingly, earth shatteringly awful. And she became a total and utter mess without him. BECAUSE SHE LOOOOOOVES HIM. SHE CAN'T LIVE WITHOOOOOOOUT HIM. And I choose to believe that Giles was a complete mess without her, too (and, judging by the other times that he was without her that we actually did see, it's a pretty fair estimation).
BUFFY/GILES IS EPIC. END OF STORY. Also, end of meme. :'(
