Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?

Hmm... you know, usually when I love a pairing, I love them to the end, so I had to think quite a bit about this one. I suppose my answer is Cooper/Violet from Private Practice simply because I gave up on them (and the show) halfway through season 2, but it's not the ship that I came to hate, it was the show. I hated how the show came back from the writers' strike and suddenly ignored that Cooper/Violet had ever been a thing. It was quite a huge part of season 1, and quite frankly it was the only thing that kept me watching that stupid show, and it killed me to see them just forgotten about in favor of Cooper/Charlotte (which is gagtastic, by the way. Ugh, cannot stand them, and apparently that ship is still going strong? Maybe? I don't know. All I know is that it's a sucky ship). So, yeah, I went from shipping Cooper/Violet hardcore to just not caring anymore. But if I ever hear that the show is reintroducing the Cooper/Violet love story, then yeah, I'll go right back to obsessing over Private Practice in all its awful glory.

I think House/Cameron kind of qualifies for similar reasons. Loved the ship in seasons 1 and 2, but throughout the course of season 3 it became clear that the show decided to drop their romance, and of course my love for House promptly declined, and once Cameron and Chase got married and the show started pushing House/Cuddy too much I gave up on the show all together. There just wasn't anything there to keep me coming back anymore (especially when House/Wilson started being sacrificed in favor of House/Cuddy. Ugh).

But yeah, with both of these ships, I still love them to death, it's just that they both have been effectively sunk, therefore they are no longer worth my time. I have a feeling that it would have been different had they been purely subtext ships, but they were both subtext ships that were also sort of canon, and for some reason, when those don't happen, it crushes me even worse than my purely subtext ships do (which is why I'm so worried about the fact that I've gotten so invested in Jeff/Annie from Community).

You know, this ensemble is so damn lovable that I really don't have a least favorite from the main cast, or even the main recurring cast, so, the answer to this one is Professor Slater. She was a terribly obvious plot device and not much else. Yeah, she was needed in order to show Britta that Jeff can be "relationship guy," but meh, ultimately she was just there. Luckily they didn't use her much, and when they did, they still managed to give her some pretty good lines.

In other news, I had no idea until today that the Merlin fandom was experiencing wank! (the Arthur/Gwen corner, anyway) Thank you, fandomsecrets, for keeping me informed about such shenanigans! I was wondering why yet another Arthur/Gwen comm had been made. I've always been a little wary of camelot_love, if I'm honest, because it's always come across to me as a very anti-anything-but-Arthur/Gwen place, which, it's a shipper comm, so that attitude isn't all that surprising, but the mod has always struck me as a bit batshit, so I stayed far away from that comm despite being a member of plenty of other Merlin shipper comms. I just... didn't want to get involved in that. I had the same problem with herchampion, they were so strictly Arthur/Morgana and nothing else that I found them a bit scary (which, again, it's a shipper comm, so it's expected). But yeah, it's stuff like that that makes me happy that my OTP is the one that most people take no notice of since it's so unlikely to happen in canon that no one sees it as a threat (though, I'm pretty positive a lot of people classify Uther/Morgana as a depraved ship, but whatever, is there any ship on this show that isn't at least a little bit depraved?). And most (if not all) Uther/Morgana shippers happen to be multi-shippers with very few squicks, so it's all good fun.

Re: Merlin, for a show that provides such ample multi-ship opportunities the single ship communities seem surprisingly belligerent. I prefer Arthur/Gwen, but really I ship Everyone/Everyone on that show so I haven't joined any single ship communities because I don't care to see any one ship bashed (are there any multi-ship communities or at least OT4 comms? I'm not that aware of Merlin comms except for the big ones).

I will say, though, that it amuses me to watch fandom communities I'm peripherally involved in or semi-aware of implode.

Ahahahaha, same here, dude, same here. Sometimes it's just ridiculously fun to watch the drama unfold (you know, as long as I'm not a part of it).

merlin_multis is for everyone/everyone, and it's run by some friends of friends who I've seen around pretty much everywhere in the Merlin fandom and seem like good people, so I'd check that one out (I've been out of the Merlin loop for awhile, so I haven't actually gotten around to joining this comm yet). I think what people love so much about camelot_love is the party aspect, it's the one place (other than merlinxarthur) where absolutely everyone gathers to discuss the eps together, and it's the one place where it's certain that Gwen will not constantly get bashed. But for me, I'm so focused on Uther/Morgana that it just wasn't the right comm for me (I will occasionally remark on the prettiness of Arthur/Gwen, but my reaction posts are 89% Uther or Uther/Morgana, 10% Merlin/Arthur, and 1% everybody else, so... yeah, I have nowhere to go but my own journal).

Yes, Charlotte/Cooper is still a thing, and it still sucks. (I have seen through to the season finale, but I am probably giving up on it because I kind of totally hate PP now.)

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. If I had known that the show would get rid of everything that I liked about it, I would have never watched it in the first place. UGH. I am thankful that I stopped when I did, because I'm pretty sure I would have just raged about it after every episode.

I absolutely DESPISE Cooper/Charlotte. Many people seem to be in love with them but I don't get it.
And I too am confused (and pissed) about PP dropping Cooper/Violet as if it never happened.
Apparently that ship is gone for good considering *SPOILER ALERT* Pete and Violet are getting married and have a kid.

Say what? Pete and Violet were more than a passing fling? Ugh. Stupid, stupid show (though, I actually liked Pete/Violet a little bit, which made it better than the mess that is Cooper/Charlotte. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO LIKE THAT SHIP. It just doesn't compute. But perhaps they got better after I stopped watching...)

It's too bad you gave up on House. It actually isn't. They sunk House/Cameron pretty thoroughly, so I understand why you left the show since you liked it so much. I still really enjoy House, personally. I can't say I'm looking forward to next season a whole lot, at least the beginning portion where House/Cuddy will reign supreme. But... I still enjoy a majority of the medical cases (lol apparently I'm one of the few), and House/Wilson is still lovely to me. SOMEHOW I AM UNCONTAMINATED by the massive wave of angry bitterness that washed over most of the House/Wilson fandom this past season, heh, although, yeah, really don't understand where the finale episode was supposed to be coming from. That entire season was full of House/Wilson reconciliation and goodness, and then it was decided that the root of House's distress was that he wasn't in a relationship with Cuddy? Uhh... riiight. I'd like to see how it pans out in any case. (It will pan out badly, that is House.) /optimism :>

Hee, I am glad that you are still enjoying House! It was your love of the show that finally pushed me into watching it, you know. And I consumed the first three seasons very quickly, so, at one point I did enjoy the show immensely! And I'm glad that I got to ride the wonderfulness of the show in its early years. And heck, I even enjoyed season 4! But somewhere in season 5 I called it quits (mostly because I kept forgetting to watch, and then I just got terribly behind, and it just wasn't worth it to catch up since I hadn't been enjoying season 5 too much. Missed season 6 completely. I try to catch the eps that people say were really good, though).

Yeah, the sad part is that I fell for them knowing that the show was going to sink them thoroughly. Clearly I am a masochist.
