PSYCH! OMG, PSYCH. I JUST CAN'T QUIT YOU. Awesome finale. For once the serious bits actually entertained me (although, you know, Shawn still sucks at being angsty, but everyone else was awesome). I kind of hated Yang during the season 3 finale, but she was so, so wonderful in this ep. In fact, I hated just about everything about the season 3 finale, whereas this one totally kicked ass. Especially two very specific moments, and if you can't guess which two moments, then clearly you don't know me at all.
LASSITER DEFYING THE RULES TO SAVE HISLADY LOVE PARTNER! There was no hesitation, not even for a moment did he think to leave it to Shawn even though Yin was all "You have to choose between the two," in that raspy voice. And I was so flippin' happy about this, because the second this scenario came up, I actually shouted at my computer "BUT JULIET HAS LASSITER! ABIGAIL ONLY HAS SHAWN!" So I am proud of the show totally acknowledging this fact, even to the point that JULIET CRIED IN LASSITER'S ARMS while Shawn was off being angsty. Time and time again the show proves that Juliet can count on Lassiter where she can't count on Shawn. OH GOD, THE LASSITER/JULIET WAS SO, SO BEAUTIFUL.
Unfortunately, the show conveniently closed the Shawn/Abigail relationship, which, I get why she's leaving him for good, it's just that her chemistry with Shawn is SO MUCH BETTER than his chemistry with Juliet, and dag nab it, if Shawn has to settle down with someonethat's not Gus, then I wanted it to be Abigail.
Am I the only one who thought for awhile there that Yin was going to turn out to be Buzz? Especially when he tilted his head all creepily. But then... he collapsed, and I got scared that he was dead. But he wasn't. So, luckily, Buzz is still alive and a good guy. But I was scared there for a minute that it was him.
MARY! Oh, Mary. He was so, so wonderful, and now he's gone forever. *sniff* And now I feel like watching all the McPoyle eps of It's Always Sunny. It is weird how freakishly attracted I am to that dude. Like, seriously, I should not find him appealing. At all. He always plays dudes that are totally creepy. But they're charmingly creepy!
The ending baffled me. I am not quite sure what was going on there. At first I thought the little boy in the picture was Yin, but then the closeup showed that it was young Shawn posing with Yang. That... was freaky. I was so hoping they'd reveal Yin's face even though I know that they aren't concluding this until season 5's finale, but still. I thought maybe they'd show him if he's not anyone we've met yet.
LASSITER/JULIET, OMG. SO BEAUTIFUL.
Ugly Betty was pretty lackluster tonight (I am lucky that I didn't fall asleep). It's only got, what, 5 episodes left? And they give us that? Ugh. This show has a bad habit of completely pooping out at the end of its seasons, but I was hoping they'd go out with a bang this time since it's their last season. I did love that Daniel/Betty moment in the beginning though. They are always lovely when they're awkward around each other. I am still hating this Daniel/Amanda nonsense, though. Way to regress them both, show! If they become a legit romance, I will puke. Just... no. No way. I don't think I will ever forgive him for his treatment of Amanda in the past enough to accept them as a legitimate love story. I just can't, and if the show decides to go there, I will be livid. Livid! Because hey, even though he's actually trying to treat her as a person now, he still kind of only sees her as a sex object. And Daniel calling her instead of Betty during his family drama just felt wrong. ON WHAT PLANET DOES HE NOT LOOK TO BETTY FOR CONSOLATION? Yeah, Betty's not his assistant anymore, but is she even his friend anymore? Does he even bother confiding in Betty anymore? Or are we just supposed to assume that the entirety of their friendship now takes place offscreen? Because that's just not good enough for me. If I don't see them being friends, then I am left wondering what the heck they are to each other. They've gone from being inseparable to being mere acquaintances, and I think this kills me way more than the fact that they never got to have their love story. And, to be honest, I can't find the strength to care about Betty's life when she is not interacting with Daniel. I've never cared for her personal life plots unless they involved Daniel in some way, and now even her work plots don't involve him (except for the one where he belittled her accomplishments). It's frustrating! The show feels so aimless when Daniel and Betty are leading completely separate lives from each other. I did love the Suarezes in this ep, though (minus Betty. She is getting back to the point where she's annoying me). And Wilhelmina was pretty awesome. But the ep as a whole was so, so boring.
Modern Family was hilarious as usual. PHIL! CAM AND MITCHELL RE-ENACTING A FAUX PAS! ♥ Oh, I love this show. It never fails to bring me glee.
The Middle! Also hilarious, but not at the top of its game tonight (actually, neither was Modern Family, but I enjoyed Modern Family more than I enjoyed The Middle).
Human Target. DEAR GOD, WHY IS EVERYTHING ON ON WEDNESDAYS? Anyway, Human Target was also not at the top of its game tonight. I don't know, dudes, somehow, some way, Psych beat out all these shows tonight in the awesomeness department. I did enjoy this episode though, just... it wasn't as quippy as it usually is? Or... something. I don't know. OH, I TOTALLY KNOW. THERE WAS NO KUNG FU! WHAT IS THIS SHOW WITHOUT ITS KUNG FU? A bunch of explosions, that's what. But Chance was his totally dreamy self. And Winston was his delightfully grumpy, put-upon self, and Guerrero was Guerrero. During the plane scene, I totally thought that Guerrero was going to confess his love to Winston. All throughout Winston's tirade I was waiting for him to say something like, "Jeez, I was just going to tell you that I love you, dude, but forget it."
CHRISTOPH WALTZ. He was on Jimmy Kimmel again tonight, and the video clip of his method acting was so, so brilliant. Who knew that the word "dill pickle" could evoke so much emotion? Oh man, I love him. Cutest man in the world. Pretty much every time they showed Christoph I kept saying (out loud, to no one) "Oh my god, he's so cute! Soooooo cuuuuuute! So cute!" I can't help it, he's really cute! And apparently he was on Jay Leno sometime this week, and I know that I vowed to not watch Jay again (although, I rarely watched him in the first place, so it's not like that was some grand gesture of defyment on my part), but it was Christoph. And baby animals!

How am I supposed to resist that? I mean, honestly. Also, Jay was a much better interviewer than Letterman was. Dear god, Letterman was such a dick. Jay actually bothered to, you know, learn where Christoph came from. ALSO, CHRISTOPH WAS EXCITED ABOUT MEETING ROBIN WILLIAMS. CLEARLY I WAS MEANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS MAN. And he loves Morgan Freeman! He wants to give him a big hug every time he sees him! Is that not the most adorable thing ever? And he mentioned Jodie Foster, too. I love his taste so very much. His Jimmy Kimmel interview was not as good, sadly. Jay definitely conducted the best interview out of all the late night hosts. And I have yet to see Christoph's appearance on Oprah. I didn't even know that he had been on Oprah! Man. I've been missing all of Christoph's appearances. Thank god for the internet.
Also, yesterday I watched Das Jüngste Gericht, which was yet another detective show/movie that Christoph was in, only this time he was a good guy! Sort of. I don't know, I can't speak German, but he was not the killer for once! Sadly, he got killed by the killer near the end, and this was the first thing I've watched where his character dies, and I got way too emotional about it. He was so adorable! Yeah, he was cheating on his wife, and the killer chose him because he committed adultery, but still, NOT COOL. I wasn't ready for that! Although I sort of was when I figured out that the Ten Commandments had something to do with the murders. And I shouldn't have been that disturbed since plenty of my men like to star in movies where they get killed (Chow Yun-Fat, I'm looking at you), but... oh, I can't take it when it's Christoph. He's too adorable for such an ending! Even when he is being despicable, I still find him to be too adorable to die. That's just a fact. But anyway, I am kind of thankful that like half of Christoph's past work is bit parts in procedurals, because procedurals are so much easier to follow than the rom-coms and other non-procedurals. Plus, this one was pretty interesting. I bet it's even more interesting to people who can actually understand the dialog! Schimanski: Blutsbrüder is still my favorite German thing that he's done though.

We have DVR, so my brother and I were rewinding and trying to find random people in the background, especially in the diner, because that's the precedent set by Yang.
Ooh, the suspense was so good, and the scene where Lassiter and Juliet hug made me a shipper! Shawn and Abigail were kind of cute and now I'm a little annoyed that it's apparently set up to be Shules. I'm sorry, but Shawn's dramatic acting was so bad. His hug with Henry was heartwarming, though. They've come a long way.
Photo of Yang and Shawn? WTF? I am baffled.
I'm pleased to say the last two episodes of Psych have been awesome. Even if I'm not as big a fan as I used to be.

Date: 2010-03-11 11:12 pm (UTC)I LOVE THAT THEIR HUG OF EPICNESS HAS FINALLY MADE YOU A LASSITER/JULIET SHIPPER! It was definitely one of their most amazing moments.

Date: 2010-03-11 04:42 pm (UTC)I also loved that Shawn really loved Abigail and they broke up for very legit reasons, I love that shawn went to save her the moment he knew where she was, I love that lassiter saved juliet! not only did he ignore protocol for once, he also sacrificed HIS GUN to save her! So so awesome. It was so wonderful to see Gus shine the way he did and to see Shaun and Henry bond. Such a perfect excellent finale, this just proves psych's still got it! (poor mary though, I really liked him and his creepy self ;_; oh well, at least we got that hilarious but touching image of shawn and gus at his funeral in raquetball gear, oh show <3)

Date: 2010-03-11 11:10 pm (UTC)YES! I totally forgot to point that out. That act alone was so, so amazing. Oh, Lassiter. *dreamy sigh*
Hee, I did love that Shawn and Gus showed up to Mary's funeral in racquetball outfits, that was a nice touch. Mary would have been proud!

Date: 2010-03-11 05:45 pm (UTC)I agree re: Human Target. Not as engaging or quippy as it usually is. NEEDED MORE HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT. I totally thought of you when Guerrero told Winston he had to make some confessions! Confessing his love for Winston would have made the episode much better.

Date: 2010-03-11 10:59 pm (UTC)Ahahahaha, didn't that plane scene feel like a love confession scene? I was totally holding my breath. *sigh* I don't even know why I ship them so hard. Like, I do NOT want to picture them having sexytimes together or anything, but they are so much like two kids on a playground who are totally in love with each other but refuse to admit it.

Omg couldn't stop the mental image from forming. Thanks for that. :( But yeah, it really did feel like Guerrero was about to go, "Hey, dude, I love you." Maybe he should have, to preemptively shut Winston up. ahahah.

If we're talking eyecandy here, Chance/Shawn Spencer would look pretty fine. And since I've made the jump to Psych... I would also go for Chance/Lassiter. Omg! I would quite enjoy the quipping. :> (I am watching Psych at the moment, by the way. Well, third season.)

Date: 2010-03-11 06:01 pm (UTC)I haven't watched it all this winter until I got so freakin' frustrated with Ugly Betty that I went ahead and switched channels. I caught the moment they were doing the North by Northwest spoof and I remembered that it was a Hitchcock theme and written by Roday (who is by far one of the best and generous writers on the staff. He doesn't just give Shawn good stuff but almost every single character usually gets a moment of being awesome in his episodes.) I was flipping back and forth between this and UB and caught Lassiter saving Juliet and stayed on Psych. For almost any other writer, this would've been used to push S/J but instead, the show did the non-anvilicious thing by letting Lassiter and Gus save her.
And that hug? At the end? OMG LASSITER/JULIET BEAUTIFUL! I'm so glad I hadn't visited your journal earlier to see the spoiler pic because I was jumping up and down on my couch when I saw that this season was going to end with them getting a nice moment.
Now I can daydream before the next season starts with the S/J stuff again. And I can go back and rewatch some of the eppies I missed which supposedly have some good Lassiter moments.
Ugly Betty What more can be said about this? It was totally boring and frustrating. I agree, I'm starting to be annoyed with Betty again. I am not into the Suarez drama at all. Heck, I didn't even love Justin/Marc when I normally do. And looking at what Horta is doing with Daniel/Betty is one of the reasons I appreciate Dan Harmon so much. So Horta has been anti-D/B (even though I thought he used to watch the show his show is supposedly based on). Fine. But instead of writing to keep them in the friendship zone, he goes so far as to basically remove them from each other's orbit. I may be a shipper but I'm also a D/B friendshipper. For Daniel to not contact Betty at the end just felt like such slap in the face to the cornerstone relationship of the show.
Each week I tell myself I'm not going to watch the final episodes and yet I can't seem to let it go. I do know that, come the end, I'm going to rewatch the original version of Yo Soy Betty La Fea to sort of cleanse myself from this faithless "adaptation."

YES! I loved this. I mean, if I had my choice, Juliet would have been able to save herself, or else Gus would have been kidnapped instead of Juliet, but at least this time it got to be about Lassiter and Juliet's relationship instead of the typical, cringe-inducing story where Juliet has to be saved by Shawn's twu wuv for her. At least with Lassiter it makes sense. She's his partner, therefore he has her back, just like she has his. Beyond that, it was so much more fulfilling seeing Lassiter being emotional about her rather than Shawn, because Lassiter is so very rarely emotional over anyone, so this ep really emphasized how much Juliet means to him. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL! They were just these very brief, subtle moments, but they were powerful nonetheless. That is where Shawn/Juliet fails.
For Daniel to not contact Betty at the end just felt like such slap in the face to the cornerstone relationship of the show.
YES! Exactly. It actually hurt that he didn't even think to call Betty. It kills me that they're not even a part of each other's lives anymore, and this was exactly what I was worried would happen if the show chose not to make them a romantic pairing somewhere down the line. They'd drift away from each other until there's no real point in even having Daniel on the show anymore. Although, at this point, Daniel's family drama is the only thing that's keeping me interested, whereas in the old days I kind of hated his family drama unless Betty got involved.
I keep telling myself to let go of Ugly Betty, too, and I was even ready to do it before this season started, but curiosity got the best of me. And now that it's so close to the end, I figure that I might as well stick with it. But yikes, if it continues to be this insignificant I may not be able to hold on. I so want to watch Yo Soy Betty La Fea, but I do not know Spanish, so... I'd be a little lost. I also really want to watch the German version, because that one looks like it veered away from the original enough to be a little bit different, but it also kept what made the original so popular. So, I want to see that one. But, I don't know German either (of course, that doesn't stop me from watching Christoph Waltz's stuff).

Date: 2010-03-12 08:18 am (UTC)Right. Same here. But I figured it was the end once they put it on Friday and then the show had to fool me by seeming better. It managed to slide back into suck pretty quickly.

I haven't seen the German but I heard it was pretty popular. The Spanish one started out well with leads with chem but like so many other versions did, they kept extending and extending the series to capitalize on the ratings and things sort of went off the rails.
YSBLF also got an extension but I think they managed to quit at the right time. They did a sequel which wasn't anywhere near as good but at least the main couple wasn't destroyed further.
The Russian version supposedly stuck very closely to the original and is probably the adaptation that I want to see the most but I don't speak a lick of Russian.
Anyway, do you do subtitles? Because YSBLF is being uploaded currently on YT with English subtitles to this channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/bettyenglish#p/u/u-all/1/F4iNTZJ8Sqc
Based on the last clip uploaded, she's about half way through. So it's not all up but it's being updated daily.
And I'll probably watch it again here too because even though I speak Spanish, I'm sure I've missed quite a bit. It'll be interesting to see what I missed and how that will change my opinions of the show.
But who am I kidding? Even watching the latest clips now, I hate the Daniel character (Armando). I always do in the beginning. But somewhere towards the end, he totally owns me and I cheer Betty and Armando on. I don't think knowing what he is saying will change that opinion.

Date: 2010-03-11 10:16 pm (UTC)It bears repeating: Carlton Lassiter SACRIFICED HIS GUN to save Juliet O'Hara's life.
It was the perfect metaphor for just how much their partnership -- just how much she herself -- has come to mean to him. Lassiter loves his gun. He needs his gun. It's his sword and his shield. And he willingly gave it up for Juliet.
I can't even ...
Tell me again why the show is insisting on Shawn/Juliet?
