You break my friggin' heart.
Jan. 22nd, 2009 12:52 amSo, I listened to the commentary of Repo!, the one with the director and Alexa Vega and Bill Moseley and Ogre, and it was utterly hilarious, but they mentioned that the movie was originally over 2 hours long, and they had to cut an entire subplot out of the movie involving Marni's body, and the scenes sounded wonderful, and it would've meant more Anthony Head scenes, BUT THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO DELETED SCENES WHATSOEVER ON THE DVD! THIS IS A TRAVESTY OF THE GREATEST MAGNITUDE! I WANT MORE REPO, DAMN IT! Also, Graverobber had a bigger storyline, mostly involving the Marni subplot, so he was more significant than just being a narrator, but WE WILL NEVER SEE THIS! *sniff* Honestly though, the Marni stuff would have made the "Didn't I" scene even more epic than it already is. Also, I am a moron for not realizing that Nathan had Marni's body in the house, and that it was gone when Shilo left to go to the opera. So, even though they left this bit of the subplot in without ever explaining it, I didn't notice. I thought it was a picture. Seriously. I did. The pictures were all 3D, so I just thought it was a more detailed picture. *facepalm* Also, another interesting tidbit, apparently critics who bash the film don't get that the funny parts are meant to be funny. They were actually taking the movie seriously. WHAAAAT? The comic book storyboards in the beginning pretty much set the mood for me and told me to look at the film as a comic, which I did, and comics are always over the top with both the drama and the comedy, plus it's an opera, so... why on earth take everything in the film seriously? Especially when there are cartoon noises in the background. I had read some user reviews of the film saying, "This movie is horrible. All they do is sing. Every line. The people in my theater were actually laughing at some of the scenes," and I was like, "Well, duh," but I didn't know that professional critics were saying the same thing. *sigh* I guess that's why I never listen to critics. Also, they all were totally mocking the way Anthony Head said "busy," after Mag asks him how he is. Apparently he had originally sung it out with a ton of emotion instead of the low gruffness that he uses for the final cut and they all found it completely hilarious. Hee. I find him utterly adorable when he's not even on the commentary. Also, I had NO IDEA that Shilo was the same girl from the Spy Kids movies. No idea. None. I thought she looked familiar, and I knew I had heard her name before, but I didn't make the connection. Also, I'm a little bit in love with Bill Moseley now (the dude that played Luigi). If I could stomach horror movies, I would totally check out more of his work. But I don't like horror. Unless it's in the form of a rock opera.
Anyway, I just had to voice my anger at being cheated out of deleted scenes and my glee at the commentary being so delightful (which is good, because the other commentary wasn't all that interesting, and the only special features are the 2 featurettes that were on the internet). But you all should buy the DVD anyway, because if the DVD does well there's a possibility of them making a sequel (or a prequel). I'd want a prequel myself. I'm thinking there has to be a connection between Nathan and Graverobber, especially after hearing a little bit about the Marni subplot.
OH! Another interesting tidbit (that is a spoiler for the end of the film, so I'll put it under a cut):
( Spoiler )
Also, Paul Sorvino is a bit of a diva. Their stories about him had me laughing like crazy. Oh, and Paris Hilton's wardrobe? Almost all of it was from her own closet. It scares me how perfect Paris Hilton was for this movie. Like... I never once thought I'd ever say I enjoyed her acting, but she was perfect for the role of Amber Sweet.
ETA: The new Office spoiler. Come on, you had to know this was coming:
