Mar. 2nd, 2010 03:14 amOH MY GOD. That was epic. EPIC. Particularly the Azula/Zuko showdown. Oh man, Azula. Her decline into insecure psychopath was kind of heartbreaking to watch. But that fight, good lord was it beautiful with the slow-mo and the music and the red and blue and just... everything. It was awesome. And I loved how Aang managed to save the world while still being able to retain his Buddhist philosophy. None of the ships worked out how I wanted them to, but I didn't particularly care since I was more into the family relationships than the romantic ones. Well, I did care about Sokka/Toph, but, you know, obviously that one couldn't happen within canon. But anyway, during season 3 Zuko/Katara became kind of epic, to the point where I finally saw why so many people thought it would actually end with them as the romance. But, of course, Aang had to get the girl, because he's the hero (and he really grew up there in the end, so that eliminated a lot of the mother/son feeling that Aang/Katara used to have). The ending, minus the Aang/Katara kiss, was utterly perfect (but even the kiss got me a little. It was the music! And the romantic lighting! I am a sucker for such things, as my reaction to the Arthur/Gwen kiss in Merlin will attest to). My only real complaint is that they didn't show us what happened to Azula, or Zuko's mother. WHAT UP, SHOW? COME ON! Other than that, the show was pretty damn near perfect from start to finish. I cannot get over how invested I got in this silly cartoon, but it contained so much of what I love about martial arts cinema, with the added bonus of a magnificently told story. It was awesome. And now I am sad that the ride is over. *sigh*
