Who Shot the Sheriff?

Okay... you know how I called Robin Hood fluffy?  So the wrong word.  OMG, this episode was so excellent!!!  I am totally invested now, and not just because Richard Armitage knows how to work the leather.  Is it wrong that I didn't truly fall in love with the character of Guy until I saw him actually kill someone?  And then I loved him even more after I saw him kill another person?  OMG!!!  This is clearly what he excels at.  He's just so awesomely intense and pervertedly happy when he does it.  Also, I love that this show can have such a huge body count, and still be light-hearted.  Also... you know when I said that Guy/Robin was classic enemy slash?  Wrong about that too, because they barely share any scenes together (at least so far.  In the first ep they had a few lovely tension-filled scenes, but since then it's been all about Robin/Sheriff, which really isn't as aesthetically pleasing for slash, sadly).  Anyway, my reason for adoring this episode so much, aside from Guy being ridiculously sexy when he kills people?  We got some layers added to Guy, with him so desperate to please the Sheriff, and we got a bit of backstory about him being a laughingstock, and we got a whole lot of the Sheriff, who I fear I am falling madly in love with purely for his sense of humor.  He's so twisted and just a ball full of sarcasm, I love it!  Also, Robin's growing on me, and now the Robin/Marian storyline isn't quite so hard to believe anymore, although the crazy mad sexual tension going on between Marian and Guy is making my stomach do somersaults, which basically means that they rock my socks as a pairing, because it would be so terribly dysfunctional and wrong, and yet, I think Marian could totally bring out the soft side in Guy.  He's definitely shown some vulnerability already (which is probably why I'm so in love with him), so I could easily see him falling desperately in love with Marian (and getting his heart horribly broken, because he's not a man who loves easily, and he detests Robin, and Marian will always love Robin, no matter what. *weary sigh*)  And of course Robin is all about being loved by everyone and he can't stand it when someone doesn't adore him, and this brings out his prickishness, so I can completely understand Guy's dislike of Robin.  He's pretty much his opposite.  He's quietly smoldering, total loner, everything about him is dark and cold (dark hair, dark clothes, deep voice), while everything about Robin is light and warm (the light hair, light eyes, warm colors of clothing, boyish "charm" (psh, if you can even call it charm), a light voice, always smiling), and Guy has to work hard to get what he wants, while everything comes to Robin easily.  Also, Guy is socially inept, and you all know how much I love socially inept characters.  OMG, I LOVE GUY!!!!

Dudes, I am so happy that I decided to give Robin Hood a try.  Such a fun show, and I'm a total sucker for sword fights, and I used to be obsessed with Robin Hood when I was a kid (the Prince of Thieves version, so... this show has everything as a completely different story than the one that I know, but I'm still loving it).  Also, I really, really adore Much, and his utter jealousy whenever Robin shows some love to anyone that isn't him.

A bit of musical reflection... and Life talk, of course.

So... I think it was yesterday that was the anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.  I'm not much of a news watcher, so I just caught snippets here and there, but I think that's what they said.  And while the rest of LJ is going on and on about some silly content strike over some stupid policy change that won't do a darn thing, I decided to bring you my favorite soldier song.  It's simple, it's bittersweet, it's peaceful, it has no real agenda, and it's just plain beautiful.  Country music is full of songs about soldiers, but this one just tugs at my heart strings every single time I hear it.

*sniffle* I adore that song.  There is no studio recording, but I actually think that's for the best.  It's so perfect with just the acoustics and the pure, unedited emotion in Tim's voice.  Gah, I love it.


Okay, enough seriousness.  It's time for some LIFE talk!  Oh yes.  You know how I said that I hated the Charlie/Constance relationship?  I... I think I'm actually starting to fall in love with it.  What is wrong with me?  I'm usually so monoshipistic when it comes to my het ships, but the more that I think about the backstory for Charlie/Constance, and the more that I watch their scenes together with that backstory in mind, the more I understand their interaction and the more they intrigue me.  I still think it's the weakest part of the show, but it has potential.  4 years worth of pent up sexual tension and forbidden passion... just imagine how utterly HOT that sex will be once they inevitably cross the line and get it on.  Constance represents that old part of Charlie's life that he just can't let go of.  She was his one beacon of hope in a cave of despair, she brought the light back into his life, and he is forever indebted to her.  She was his whole world, his savior, and she'll always be up on that pedestal.  And she has always been the forbidden fruit, the one that he's been salivating for but he just can't pick.  So I'm starting to love their relationship for all those reasons, but most of all, I'm loving it because it is so very doomed.  He has no control when it comes to her, and she's weak when it comes to Charlie, and Charlie needs boundaries, he needs someone to hold him back when he loses control, and Constance will never be able to do that (but do you know who can?  And does?  Yep, that's right, Dani Reese.  Squeeeeeeeee!!!).  Also, Constance wants to change Charlie, she wants him to be something that he can't be, not anymore, and she can't just accept what he's able to give her.  As for Charlie, he places Constance way up on that pedestal and makes her more saintly than she really is, and he wants her to just make sacrifices for him unquestioningly.  And they both desperately want what they had before, where it's just them against the world, no one else really existed for them, and they can't get that back, no matter how bad they want it.  But Charlie and Dani?  They don't want to change each other, they don't need to change each other, and they don't try to change each other, they just accept each other and they just accept the world for what it is.  GAH!!!  Anyway, back to Constance/Charlie.  I would have LOVED to see their romance during the prison years.  It would have been so fraught with repressed attraction and denial and quiet, stolen moments of affection, and I can see it all from Constance's point of view, and how her marriage starts to crumble because she's got all these confused feelings for Charlie, and just... gah!  Yeah, I've got all kinds of ideas going on in my head, and if I was brave enough to attempt backstory for Charlie, I would definitely be writing a Charlie/Constance fic, but... no, not brave enough.  Anyway, looking at their relationship in present time, it is just so very doomed, and they are so very wrong for each other, and what they had was based more on need than love.  Charlie needed her to be his savior, and she needed him to need her.  But now he no longer needs her, but he doesn't want to let her go.  And she still needs him to need her, so she's completely lost.  Oh, man, SO much potential.  I really hope that the writers clean up that storyline and actually use the Charlie/Constance backstory to their advantage.  But you all know that I view Charlie and Dani as complete soulmates, so they are endgame in my mind, and even though they should absolutely, positively be endgame for the show, I'm not going to hold my breath.  I always get disappointed as far as my ships go, and these two would have to be written in exactly the right way to make it work, and it would have to be unbelievably slow and subtle, and with ships like that, the writers usually lose their patience and just throw the characters together way too soon, and I most definitely DO NOT want that to happen.  I just want their relationship to keep growing at the pace that it currently is, and I'm hoping that their partnership slowly starts colliding with their personal lives and they are more involved with each other, and eventually they'll truly care for each other, and then we just get this lovely slow build up of a blossoming romance that doesn't come to fruition until the very end.  That is my dream. *sigh*  Of course, I certainly wouldn't mind some totally hot, emotionally-charged Crews/Reese mistake sex somewhere along the way. ;)
