HOW AM I NOT SUPPOSED TO CARE ANYMORE WHEN THEY HIT ME WITH THOSE ANVILS? DEAR GOD, SHOW! STOP DOING THIS TO ME! OR DON'T, BECAUSE IT'S KIND OF A DELICIOUS TORTURE.

There is no way that this show is being unintentionally anvilicious. I don't care how often they deny it (the creators and the non-shippers), this show has inserted rather obvious Daniel/Betty subtext from day 1. This is so not like my other ships where I am just swooning at the unintentional symbolism. This is purposeful, canon ship-teasing AND THEY KNOW IT.

spoilers )

So, this ep definitely laid the groundwork to have Daniel start falling for Betty romantically, but... I will not hold my breath. As excited as this episode made me, I still cannot get over the fact that this show has burned me too many times. But this is the greatest Daniel/Betty we've gotten probably since way back in Zero Worship (though I still think Zero Worship is the shippiest episode the show has ever given us). And with all this shippiness, I am almost inspired to write fic again (someone actually PMed me the other day and inquired as to whether I'd ever write for Daniel/Betty again, so at least I know that one person will still read my Ugly Betty stuff). BUT I STILL HAVE TOO MANY OTHER THINGS TO WRITE. So, probably not going to happen, but you never know. This episode opened up so many possibilities that I am kind of dying to explore.

Also, aside from episode 2, this season has been so utterly magnificent that it pains me that ABC is choosing now to probably give it the axe. On the other hand, it'll be awesome for the show to go out on a positive note.

Ooo, Monk is on! MONK/TRUDY. Must go now.

So, tonight's Merlin was just so-so for me. Obviously I am doomed to have the exact opposite reaction to episodes as the rest of the fandom (or... my f-list, specifically). I don't know, this ep just didn't do it for me. I mean, the dialog was actually unusually witty and quite clever, but the episode just didn't delight me the way that Merlin usually does. The only scene where I got that giddy thrill was the one where an exasperated Uther turns to Merlin for an explanation about Arthur's behavior. Uther/Merlin will never not delight me (unless, you know, Uther threatens to kill Merlin for real, but hopefully that won't happen anytime soon).

I didn't even get excited about Uther and Morgana sitting super close to each other during the tournament scenes. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I just... miss them actually talking to each other. You know, sharing words and looking at each other with much smolder. And next week just spells doom and gloom and vicious destruction for them, so, I am kind of sad that their relationship hasn't been played up lately (it all happened in the beginning of the season and then for about 6 episodes straight we get absolutely nothing, so, won't that kind of take away some of the punch of the Uther/Morgana breakup? If they do indeed part ways, that is. No idea if the show will even properly focus on their relationship next week, but it would seem a waste not to).

Anyway, I am kind of tired and my ears hurt and they are so plugged that I can barely hear anything, so perhaps I was just not in the mood for my weekly dose of cracky goodness. I also found the Secrets and Magic ep and the Real Merlin and Arthur documentary terribly boring, so... yeah, I just wasn't in the mood tonight, I guess.
