Guys, Ji Jin Hee is so frickin' dreamy that I am tempted to watch Dong Yi. Which is 63 episodes long. Is it worth it? Did anybody watch this one? It has an age gap ship, which is probably what is tempting me the most (well, besides Ji Jin Hee's dreaminess), but I just don't know if I can conquer 63 episodes. And historical dramas only seem to be my thing if it's fusion, because the true and blue historical ones are too much like a boring history lesson for me. Not sure if this one is fusion or not, but based on the summary it's about a young woman who overcomes adversity and rises to the top through sheer strength of character, which is totally my thing. IDK, IDK. I'm probably too lazy to watch this one. I should just watch The Man Who Can't Get Married.

*dreamy sigh* Seriously, how so many people are rooting against him for Dong Soo in Take Care of Us, Captain is beyond me. I mean, I love Dong Soo, but Han Da Jin clearly doesn't. She is just not that into him, and Dong Soo is so dang sweet that he deserves someone who actually appreciates all that he does. The relationship is just too uneven for me to ship them even a little bit, because it's all give and no take for Dong Soo, and Da Jin is so incredibly oblivious to his feelings that it's insane. Although I think part of her knows, she just... ignores it? Like, she's come to love and depend on him as a friend, but there are no romantic inklings from her end at all. She seems to look at him more like a brother than a boyfriend, especially when compared to the way she looks at the Captain. She finds the Captain just as dreamy as I do, especially when he does sneakily romantic things like buying expensive blankets for their stakeout that he refused to participate in and yet he couldn't stay away (he even brought her food!). And, oh gosh, the look she shoots his way when she and her sister had brought him food and he's smiling down at her sister. I love that he melts every time he's with her sister, and I love that Da Jin finds it to be the most adorable thing ever. And I loved that when he looked back up at Da Jin, they were sharing this affectionate smile with each other and then quickly realized what they were doing and the Captain tersely looked back down at his food and Da Jin was all befuddled. Ooooooh, I love them. Love love love. I wish every day was Take Care of Us, Captain day (although, for me it kind of is since I always end up rewatching an episode or two every day).

So, What's Up. I watched ep 18 last night thinking that it was the finale, and then the ending was so random and didn't wrap up a thing, and I was like, "WTF? What is happening? What is this?" but I was also kind of happy because Sun Woo Young didn't die, but then there was a preview for next week at the end, and I was like, "Hallelujah! THERE WILL BE MORE!" Sadly, that probably means that my Sun Woo Young does not get to live. *sniff* On the bright side, yesterday's ep gave us a Doo Ri/Sun Woo Young look that lasted an awkwardly long time and it was SO DANG BEAUTIFUL. I wish I could turn it into a gif, but I don't know how to make a high quality gif, especially one that would last as long as this look did, so have a picspam instead:

Oh my god, just looking at these pics is making me all teary-eyed and giggly )

I can't get over these two, I just can't. WHY do they not share any scenes together in Wild Romance? Why is Oh Man Suk being so wasted in that drama? If they aren't going to give him a decent storyline, then they at least need to make an excuse for him to sing something. Right? RIGHT? But yeah, I'm convinced that Wild Romance would have been infinitely better had it paired these two up instead of making Dong Soo married and having no real significance to the story beyond the first four eps. And while I've finally begun to enjoy the Dong Ah/Manager Kim matchup, I just think Dong Ah/Dong Soo would have killed me with its greatness. Can you imagine how adorable that loveline would have been? Siiiiiiiiigh, wasted opportunities. Oh, interesting fact: the girl playing Oh Man Suk's wife in Wild Romance is also in What's Up (she's in a couple of the mini episodes at the end, playing a rival to Chae Young). So Wild Romance is basically just a giant What's Up reunion.

Also, I've gotten caught up with Moon that Embraces the Sun, and I am really enjoying it. The ep where Yeon Woo supposedly dies made me cry more than anything has in a long, long, long freaking time. OMG, I think I used up an entire tissue box. So, I think it's safe to say that I am emotionally invested in this one, but at the same time, I'm not loving it like I'm loving the other dramas that I'm currently watching. Like, I'm not dying to see the next ep, and I'm not drooling over anyone, and I'm not voraciously shipping anything, I'm just really enjoying everything that the show is throwing at me, and I acknowledge that this drama is really well done. Is it deserving of its 31% ratings? Probably not, but even though I love the other two dramas that air against it more, I admit that this drama is far superior quality-wise. But, you know, I'm more into crack than quality.

So... yeah, back to the original point of this point. Dong Yi: yay or nay?
firthgal: (oms)
So, last night I was watching the new ep of What's Up (or, you know, fast forwarding to all the parts with Oh Man Suk), and I ended up taking a billion screencaps of this one scene just because he looks super cute in that coat/sweater combo. Like, seriously, that was my main motivation. But then he and Oh Doo Ri started semi-arguing like an actualfax couple, and I couldn't help but go crazy with glee:

Look at them! Being in close proximity to each other! Actually, the scene starts out with him kind of awkwardly shifting away from her, like he just realized that he was practically leaning on her and that that would just encourage her. But then he starts saying something to Tae Hee and Byung Gun, and he looks mighty full of himself, and Doo Ri seems to think the same thing:

CUTE! CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUUUUUUUUUUTE! )

Once again, did not care for the Tae Hee/Jae Hun stuff. I think I just need to face the fact that I find the lead characters boring. I don't dislike them, I just don't care about them. I care about everyone else a whole lot more, particularly Sun Woo, Doo Ri, and Byung Gun. Speaking of which:

So flippin' cute.

Also, I've started watching Special Task Force MSS, which was a 4 episode drama special that Oh Man Suk starred in, and it's basically a four hour long buddy cop film and I am adoring it to pieces, and OMS is super sexy in this one. LOOK AT HIS CONCEITED HAIR FLIP!

♥ ♥ ♥
firthgal: (kmm - i loba you)
So, I'm kiiiiiind of in love with Warrior Baek Dong Soo. Like, ridiculously so. It's only been two episodes, so I can't say for sure whether I'll stay in love with it, but OMG. It's so utterly corntastic that I can't help but love it.

MAKJANG VILLAINS. Oh gosh, he is so hilariously over the top that I find him kind of endearing. Or, well, maybe not endearing, but instead of being annoying I find him to be delightful. In that awful, "this dude is so pathetic" kind of way. The more shrill his voice gets, the more I laugh. I swear sometimes I am totally a 10 year old kid, because I am positive that's who this character is geared towards. Anyway, the actual villain, who is more classically makjang, is icky and I hate him, so he doesn't get a picture. HE WAS GOING TO BOIL A NEW-BORN BABY. And he was enjoying it. Not cool, not cool. I'll stick with my shrill, dignity-less villain who always ends up pleading for his life whenever he faces the Sword Saint.

The Sword Saint. He can fight off twenty men without breaking into a sweat. He's respected by all. He is noble of heart and totally badass and my kind of stoic hero through and through. It is not surprising that he made me swoon. And for once I don't feel bad swooning over this actor (he usually plays really douchey guys, so it's nice to see him as a good guy). And, much to my pleasure, he got some action right away from a badass lady assassin:

Their love is tragic and beautiful and man do I ship them without even knowing their backstory. Clearly they are on opposing sides, but they have such a deep affection and understanding for each other, and I so want flashbacks. I think it's pretty obvious that their story will mirror the love story between the three kids, but, you know, I still want flashbacks! And I'm curious as to why she's with the Sword Saint's frenemy instead of the Sword Saint.

Laughably angsty young boys! The one playing Dong Soo actually did a pretty good job, but the other kid? OMG was I wishing that his father had succeeded in killing him. Of course, if that had happened, then we wouldn't have gotten this:

DIRTYBADWRONG SLASH POTENTIAL. Hahaha, if this were an anime, this would be the most popular ship BY FAR. Well, until Dong Soo and this kid become friends, anyway.

And then we have the cutesy OTP ship that I hope stays this adorable when the actors change.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting this drama to focus so much on the adults, nor was I expecting such an action-packed introduction. There is plenty of martial arts and plenty of limbs being cut off and all that good stuff. My fear though is that these first two eps sold me a different show than it is going to become, but perhaps not. My problem with City Hunter was that the first ep was an entirely different story from the rest of the show, whereas with this show, even though the principle actors haven't even shown up yet, the story with the adults is being carefully woven into the story with the kids, so there shouldn't be too much of a tonal shift.

In other news, I am also in mad love with Heartstrings, which I wasn't expecting. The first two eps didn't impress me, but after this week's eps, I find that I am completely addicted to it. I NEED MORE.

So here's the short version (caps courtesy of Dramabeans):

Miss Ripley episode 2 )

Oh, oh, I just have to add this scene:

Because it was strangely sexy. Especially when he reached over to unlock the security thingies without taking his eyes off of her. OMG, I LOVE THEM. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I hope they get to kiss at some point, because their UST is smokin'. I don't want a cop-out just because of their age gap. It's not like this is an innocent romcom, so, hopefully we'll get something, though I suspect that their romance will be very restrained (which is actually what I like, but still. I need a kiss!)

In other news, Lie to Me has turned up the angst, and I like that very much. Finally the stupid lie plot is out of the way and we can get to the real romance. Problem is, there's no plot anymore, but the plot was stupid, so maybe that's a plus. WHAT IS THE SHOW EVEN ABOUT? I don't know, but I like the kissyfuntimes and the stomach curling angst. But yeah, this drama goes from meh to good to huh? to meh to YAY! to hmm to ouch to YAY! to *cries*, so I don't even know what to expect next.

30 Day Kdrama Challenge
Day 07: Your Favorite Line/s by a Male Lead Character

"Dang. Dung. O. Ri." ~ Kang Mae from Beethoven Virus. It means "piece of shit," and he says this to a housewife who is playing the cello, and she's quite lovable and sympathetic and you know she's doing this to make herself feel significant because she's unappreciated at home, and here she is being called a piece of shit just because she's not a professional cellist. It was harsh and it makes you gasp, but the delivery was so freaking hilarious that I couldn't help but laugh. And it's probably the only line in any k-drama that I can actually remember. Kang Mae gets a lot of great lines, and he actually says a lot more brilliant insults than that, but that's the one that sticks with you, just because he said it in such a unique way. And his face. OMG, the way he curls his lip and turns up his nose as he says it. Oh, I love him.

Another memorable line is from Bad Family (not surprisingly, another Kim Myung Min drama) where Oh Dal Gun keeps saying "Do you want to smell dirt?" (meaning "I'm going to bury you alive.") It kind of becomes his catch phrase and he says it so often that it loses its initial intimidating effect, to the point where even the little kids are saying it back to him.

firthgal: (ksw - iris)
Oh gosh. Oh man, this drama. This unintentionally wacky, oldschool melodrama that I am completely in love with. GUYS, WHAT IS HAPPENING? I blame Kim Seung Woo. It's all him and his smoldering eyes.

Look at him emoting by a window!!! He's the best. ♥ ♥ ♥ But seriously, when the craziness of this drama is not cracking me up, it just gets me. And I love how in the very first minute of the drama we already get an idea of who these men are and how their romance goes with Miri.

Yoo hyun (Mickey Yoochun): On a spring day, I met that girl. I could see at first sight, her eyes resembled my mother who had passed away so long ago. She was so pretty when she laughed. I really... loved that woman.

Myung Hoon (Kim Seung Woo): The world that made me so exhausted. The woman that taught me the joy of living. That woman, to me, was as important as my heart. I... loved that woman.

Right away I love the contrast between them, how Yoo Hyun is clearly very young and naive and so darn sweet, and how things just have more gravity for Myung Hoon. It was a life changing event for him, and he loved her for the person that she was and the person that she helped him to become, whereas Yoo Hyun is just kind of like, "Oh, she was so pretty. So, so pretty." Pfft. I am not a fan of love at first sight stories, as you can probably tell.

Anyway, this beginning leads me to believe that Jang Miri dies in the end since they are both talking in the past tense. But it might just be that she loves them both and leaves before her lies destroy their lives. Or she leaves after she does destroy their lives. I DON'T KNOW, BUT I WANT TO FIND OUT.

It has been too damn long since I've done a picspam review/recap/mock session. Keep in mind that this will mostly just be me drooling over Kim Seung Woo and insisting that Myung Hoon and Jang Miri are already sharing an epic love together )

And that's just the first episode. The second ep contains even more of Myung Hoon and Miri being smoldering together. I might picspam that one after dinner. We'll see, we'll see. Oh, Kim Seung Woo, the things you do to me!

GREATEST VIDEO EVER. Ahahahahaha, OMG, I love them.

Anyway, I went to a Sugarland concert last night, and they've started their Incredible Machine tour, and OMG, IT WAS SO, SO WONDERFUL! They've gotten much more... er... choreographed since the last time I saw them. I mean, they've always jumped around the stage, but this time it seemed more organized, more synchronized dancing and whatnot, and they are so damn adorable that you can't not smile when they do that. They just seem to have so much fun when they're up there together. THEY ARE THE CUTEST! But, besides the dancing, their stage set was so incredibly awesome. It's got a bit of a steampunk thing happening, and the opening was amazing (they're both behind this curtain thing that looks like a metal building and it's got open sections and you can see them doing their robot moves and then their silhouettes are huge on the curtain and just... it was awesome. I can't even explain its awesomeness).

It looked something like that. If I wasn't so shaky and if my camera wasn't almost 10 years old, it would have been a damn good pic! *sigh*

But yeah, Sugarland was freaking amazing and had me on my feet the entire time. They know how to get the audience excited. One thing I love about Sugarland concerts though is their random musical interludes, where, in the middle of one of their own songs, they'll throw in a medley of other people's songs and then go back to their song, and it's both hilarious and awesome:

She's totally channeling Michael Scott there.

(this is one of their new songs, which was probably my favorite out of all their new ones, but once they started singing "Sweet Caroline" I loved it even more).

And for their final encore they did Stayin' Alive (check out my view. IT SUCKS TO BE SHORT).

More pics that emphasize my shortness. Also, Little Big Town kicked ass. )

So, that was a lot of fun.

The Tale of Iroh is officially one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.

I've watched this song at least 5 times now, and I cry harder every time. OH MY GOD. IROH. I wish the entire sequence was on YouTube, because to get the full impact you need to see how utterly wonderful this man is, but even just that little bit is still wicked heartbreaking. He's just so sweet and open and peaceful and ridiculous and aware, and the short showed us all of that, but then it all leads up to this scene that is so beautiful and tragic in its simplicity. I can't get over how successfully this cartoon pulls off Iroh's brokenness in such a subtle way. This was probably the most overt it's been, and GOD was it beautiful. I would certainly rank this with the Carl/Ellie sequence in Up that makes me bawl every time I watch it. Anyway, when the "In honor of Mako" showed up, it hit me that Iroh is probably going to die considering the show went through 2008 and Mako died in 2006. He's going to die, isn't he? And I will probably cry even harder than I did with this scene, won't I? *sigh*

Momo's tale made me cry, too, which is ridiculous, but I never quite realized the depth of his love for Appa until we got that glimpse of his life. The Katara/Toph one also made me tear up a little bit. Oh, Toph. I love her so very much (also... I think I've started shipping her with Sokka? Ack, what is with me and inappropriate ships? But seriously, their banter is epic. I am still in love with Aang/Toph too, though. And Aang/Katara. And Zuko/Katara. And Mai/Zuko. Basically, I went from shipping no one to shipping everyone).

I'm pretty sure there is no greater place to spend Valentine's Day (or any day, for that matter) than at a Phil Vassar concert. I love this dude so, so much. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: if my life had a narrator, it would be this man. He just writes songs that are so appreciative of the little things in life and having fun. He's amazing, and awesome, and I love him. And try as I might to find other performers who entertain me as well as he does, so far no one has been able to compare (keep in mind that I've never seen Garth. I'm pretty sure Garth would blow everyone out of the water simply because I worship the man). But anyway, Phil has this ability to bring the fun no matter how lackluster the audience is (and, this was an audience of mainly older people who didn't even know who he was). He started off a little rocky, but the drunker he got, the more fun he was having, and it was awesome.

LOOK AT HOW MUCH HE IS ENJOYING THAT PIANO. I am kind of angry at myself for not getting his epic piano playing moments on video, but, I did manage to get 11 seconds of Piano Man! Which... contains no moments of epic piano playing, but it does contain a harmonica! (barely)

I actually got some good shots this time! Amazingly! Also, he was singing my favorite song RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME )

I love him. A lot. And now I am going to go to bed, and I'm pretty sure that I will still be grinning like a loon when I wake up tomorrow.
